@CameronCorduroy It's abundently obvious right now that being "one of the good ones" isn't going to protect any trans person, and that average voters don't make that distinction. I don't see a point in running defense for these people acting like only the bad trans people have to worry
@CameronCorduroy I understand you're trying to be supportive or optimistic here, but the truth is there wasn't just one line of attack against trans people. We were attacked for playing sports, existing around kids, which washroom we used etc... and voters flocked to those messages.
They'll seriously post shit like this while laughing that a president who campaigned largely on transphobia won. My brother in Christ, you would never kill for us, you wouldn't even put aside your ego and vote to help us, or even attempt to sympathize with us in times of need.
Never let an ancom convince you they actually care about trans rights. 100% of the time they are either just trying to appeal to one of the only groups marginalized and desperate enough to buy into their shitty ideology, or they're just trying to get laid 👍
Unfortunately, they only have to throw the least populous of those letters under the bus to appeal to lost sections of their base. I don't believe that the LGBQ are going to abstain in any meaningful way in unity with the T when the alternative is an outwardly homophobic party.
LGBTQ voters were 8% of the electorate, and voted 86% for Democrats in 2024. Without us, Trump would have won in a landslide. No path to victory in 2028 involves cutting us loose from the Democratic coalition. No matter how many well-paid pundit bros wish otherwise.
So far, I’ve defended the Democratic Party from all angles.
I did that because their platform has been very good for trans people so far. But I knew that if Dems lose while Trump spends 250 million on an attack ad about trans people, they might abandon us.
They lost.
And already there’s chatter within the party of throwing us under the bus. There’s no guarantee going forward that trans people have a place in the Democratic Party. I hope we do, and I’ll be there if so.
But for now, I’m going to assume trans people are on our own. I’m going to be moving to a blue state, and then if things get a lot worse I’m going to be leaving the country.
I believed in the promise of America, but I’m not sure that promise extends to us anymore.
If any democrats read this, please don’t throw us away. Civil rights for everyone is fundamental and though they came for us first, one day they’ll come for you.
Biden’s decision to be so welcoming and accepting of trans people is a gift uncherished. I will never forget he did it, never accept what will now be done to his legacy. It is a tragedy.
most people don't know this, but because of the way tax brackets are structured getting a small raise can push you into paying way more in taxes. often, it's not even worth getting the raise anymore
@LinkofSunshine I was pretty good friends with Nick about 5-7 years ago; Skype called with him and others almost every night, and still talk politics with his brother fairly often. It's always really cool when he randomly on my timeline from random people I follow and see how far he's gone ❤️
@LBJapologist_ Probably true. I think it's fair to complain about his scandals related to nepotism or argue he shouldnt have done so much deficit spending in 2015-2019, but by and large I don't get the hate. The covid recovery was relatively strong, hasn't made any egregious policy changes.
