Extreme heat is affecting many parts of the U.S. right now and superintendents may have to temporarily play some defense to keep courses in good shape through this tough stretch 👇
Layton tree is removing trees left of 18. We’ll be laying sod tomorrow. This should be a nice improvement when teeing it up on the final hole @ Northstone Country Club.
We ran a heavy irrigation cycle last night pumping an enormous vol. of H20 to provide the greens w/ a sodium flush. Greens will be very soft, however, they perc @ nearly 23”/hr which is rapid & should firm up rather quickly. Thank you for your patience & please fix ball marks.
Course is being set up @ pin 6. Just rolling greens this morning allowing the HOC to come back up to standard for NS’s greens after this weekend tourney. Mowing through the green, prepping areas for sod, spraying greens w/ Agriox, Sigma Bio products, & Turf fuels element 6.
We’re going to throw a # of M using Simplot’s 26-5-11 w/ hydrafuze wetting agent down on the new Sod & get it watered in today at some point. We have 42 rolls of sod left over in which we’re going to lay at the ent.coming into the club left of 18 on top of the hill in the rough.
We got great seed germ. the hillside @ the pickleball courts where the Jute mat was laid. The other areas are germinating slowly where we spread the Command (compost). The area left of the back tennis court is struggling to germ due to lack of seed to soil contact.
When tough summer weather hits, golf course superintendents may have to play defense and prioritize healthy grass over optimal playability until the weather improves 👇
In our new podcast, Dr. Doug Soldat @djsoldat from @UWMadison covers the do's and don'ts of soil nutrient testing and answers questions about how often to test, how to sample, how to interpret results, and more 👇

We brought the small roller out to finish the clean up passes, due to me not having the greens mowers do a clean up, for obvious reason (thinning). Unfortunately, there’s just no way he could stay ahead of play & finish rolling the rest of the greens.
We have active dollar spot (sclerotinia homeocarpa) disease in our 419 rough areas. You can see the cotton (mycelium) growing on the turf. Perfect disease conditions today.
.14” precipitation last night. The rain slowed greens significantly. Keep that in mind as you approach the green or are putting. Final round of the NS Ryder cup. Course set up @ pin 1. Mowing & rolling greens & raking greenside bunkers. Nothing special, but we did lower the HOC!
The Celebration Bermuda tees on 7 on just start to spread laterally & it’s June 27th. The weather has been odd this year. A couple more urea apps & we’ll be golden.
Ryder cup tourney starts again today. .25” precip. last night. That’s great for our sod rooting & seed germination. Course is being set up @ pin 4. Mowing & rolling greens. Raking greenside bunkers. We’ll hit the rest of the sod w/ Retain pro, Kelp, & Muscle. Rain tonight?
Many courses in the Southeast were looking at some winter injury this spring. Even if the damage is fully healed, it's a good idea to think about why it happened and what can be done to reduce the risks next time 👇
Spencer is going to hit the new sod with Retain pro (a retention wetting agent), seaweed/kelp, & muscle, which is a combination of amino acids and proteins. This will help keep that sod happy.
