@qfireniel@Halfpipe399@Sonicguru_Dan Iizuka was a guest previous years where nothing Sonic related was announced, he was even at The Game Awards.
His presence does not confirm anything.
@Cryptttid I can do you one better, Reed is the one taking the photo. Just follow the arm all around and it starts where the person taking the photo is. It even makes sense since it's his right hand behind Sue and his left is taking the photo.
@savonthesis@LexiTalksComix They did, for 13 years (2006-2019), after which they sold their majority stake in it and it went bankrupt in 2024. Crackle was the name.
@Excessive_Boot This too, especially since it was moved up following Air Riders having poor sign up. The underlying problem is still Epic Games choosing to dedicate bandwidth for Fortnite despite SEGA paying for it.
It's better overall to educate people on who runs the online, as it's not SEGA.
To all the people mad about what happened at momocon with CrossWorlds, IT'S AN EPIC GAMES ISSUE. They use the same servers as Fortnite and Fortnite has a tournament running. All games running on those servers are having problems as Epic prioritizes bandwidth for Fortnite.
@ChoppaFruit Never said as such, just that people should direct their frustrations at the team that can actually address the problem. Screaming at SEGA and Sonic Team is basically screaming at a brick wall. It's a service issue with Epic Games.
@JJTailsX2@aouad_paul@bkbriggs324@super_ult They likely ran the numbers and concluded that the costs of creating and maintaining the infrastructure was more expensive than just renting it.
This isn't all that uncommon when existing tools exist or you're on a strict budget.
And for those unaware, yes, lobbies, matchmaking, and netcode are handled by EOS. That's why Sonic Team chose to use UE5. Here's the interview from March where they said as such.

TLDR: Epic Games is who you should be directing your anger at. They are the ones that decided to prioritize bandwidth for Fortnite over a service companies pay them to use.
@NiTESPEED@SayJonny_ Regardless of netcode type, yes, it's handled by EOS and not SEGA, as stated by Sonic Team in this interview. That's the main reason they even used UE5. They leveraged their past experience with P2P multiplayer to implement EOS's tools.

@CloudNinjaEDM I looked it up and yeah, Nintendo is strict on patch quality and can take upwards of a whole month to verify a patch.
Sony and Microsoft usually get it done in as little as a day to a week.
@CloudNinjaEDM Part of that is that some consoles, specifically Switch, require a month long or longer review process for patches, unfortunately.
There have been hot patches for certain issues on Xbox and Epic Games Store if I remember correctly, so Nintendo might be the reason.
@CloudNinjaEDM The only issue with that would be logistics within SEGA, as they'd be hiring the same people to add a LAN mode that they would've hired had they just made their own servers.
It'll take a lot of convincing to get off of the ground internally.
@NiTESPEED@SayJonny_ Other games, like Rocket League, that also run on EGS were also having disconnect issues.
Lobbies are explicitly handled by EGS. That's how we have crossplay. The netcode is server based rollback, which also runs on EGS's netcode.
These are not things SEGA can patch.
@JJTailsX2@aouad_paul@bkbriggs324@super_ult SEGA doesn't have servers period. The servers are entirely hosted by Epic Games, which is why we've seen zero patches addressing the connection issues, they are not something SEGA can patch.
@SuperGirlKels The thing is that would require SEGA to hire the team they deliberately didn't by contracting Epic Games to run the servers. It'd essentially require an entire new team just to build.
It would be a nice to have, but logictically it would be hard to get off the ground internally.
@CloudNinjaEDM False, they scheduled it at the exact same time as a Fortnite Tournament. The servers run on the exact same servers as Fortnite, so Epic prioritized bandwidth for Fortnite. Other impacted games included Epic owned Rocket League, it's not a CrossWorlds exclusive issue.
