I decided to explore HTML visuals in Power BI over the weekend with help from @claudeai , and the result was this interactive sales dashboard.

From dynamic KPI cards to custom-styled charts and responsive layouts, HTML opens up a whole new level of design flexibility inside Power BI. It feels less like a report and more like a product.

It still makes sense in 2026, but not in an “all-in or nothing” way.

Microsoft Power BI is mainly a trusted semantic and reporting layer that gives you consistent KPIs, governance, security, and a single source of truth at scale.

AI agents are great for automation and flexible analysis, but without that structured layer you often end up with inconsistent metrics and fragmented insights.

So the real shift is not Power BI vs AI workflows, it is Power BI plus AI working together.

Most people don’t know you can enable 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘀 in Power BI.

This feature allows report users to change chart types, swap fields, and customize visuals for themselves without editing the original report.

So instead of building multiple versions of the same dashboard for different stakeholders, you can let users interact with the data the way they prefer.

One feature. Less dashboard duplication. Better user experience.
