Colleen Slemmer was only 19 years old when she was murdered. Her death was not quick. She endured a prolonged attack lasting roughly 30 to 45 minutes.

She was beaten, repeatedly cut and slashed, and suffered extensive injuries while she was still alive. She tried to defend herself and escape, and she begged for the attack to stop.

A pentagram was carved into her chest, and ultimately massive blunt-force trauma to her head killed her.

What happened afterward makes the crime even more disturbing. Christa Pike removed a piece of Colleen’s skull and kept it as a souvenir. She returned to the Job Corps center, showed it to another student, and talked about the killing.

The Tennessee Supreme Court later described Pike as having “gleefully recounted” the murder.

Colleen was not simply a name attached to a famous death-row case. She was a 19-year-old woman who spent the final moments of her life fighting to survive, trying to escape, and begging for mercy.

The brutality she endured, followed by Pike’s documented behavior immediately afterward, is an important part of Colleen’s story that should never be forgotten 🙏💔

Here's what the court record says Colleen went through:

Pike lured her to a dark, isolated spot on the University of Tennessee campus.

By Pike's own account, the premeditated attack lasted 30 minutes to an hour.

Colleen, only 19 years old, was beaten, slashed, stabbed, and her skull was crushed.

The medical examiner testified Colleen was alive and conscious the whole time.

Colleen had defensive wounds. She fought back.

Pike stopped partway through to scout the area, then went back to finish it.

Then Pike walked back to the Job Corps center. Colleen was found the next morning.

No doctor. No hospital. No appeals. No 30+ more years.

Colleen didn't snore. She didn't sleep. She didn't wake up with a sore arm.

She fought, she suffered, and she died alone in the dark.
