Heartfelt Tribute to
> Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya (25 Sept 1916 - 11 Feb 1968) was a great Indian thinker, philosopher and co-founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh (forerunner of BJP). Born in Nagla Chandrabhan, Mathura, UP, he lost his parents early but excelled in studies - gold medalist in Sikar. He joined RSS in 1937 and became full-time pracharak in 1942.
> He gave India the philosophy of *Integral Humanism (Ekatma Manavvaad)* - an Indian alternative to both capitalism and communism, based on Antyodaya (upliftment of the last man), Swadeshi, self-reliance and cultural nationalism. Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee said: "Give me two Deendayals and I will change the face of India." His death at Mughalsarai in 1968 remains mysterious.

*Heartfelt Tribute to S P Balasubrahmanyam on his Death Anniversary — 25 September 2020*

S P Balasubrahmanyam — SPB — was *India's Eternal Voice.* He sang over *40,000 songs in 16 languages* over 50 years — a Guinness World Record.

*Born:* 4 June 1946, Nellore (now Andhra Pradesh) to S P Sambamurthy and Sakunthalamma. His wife is Savitri, son S P Charan, daughter Pallavi.

*The Journey:*
An engineering student, he won a singing competition in 1964. Music director S P Kodandapani gave him first break with Telugu film _Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna_ in 1966. He never looked back.

He became the voice of Salman Khan, Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Anil Kapoor — for every superstar.

*Awards & Glory:*
- *6 National Film Awards* for Best Male Playback Singer
- *Padma Shri (2001), Padma Bhushan (2011), Padma Vibhushan (2021 posthumous)*
- *25 Nandi Awards* from Andhra Pradesh Govt
- He acted in 72 films and was a beloved TV host with _Paadutha Theeyaga._

*The Magic:* His voice had no age — romantic, classical, peppy, devotional — he could sing anything. _“Tere Mere Beech Mein”, “Ek Duuje Ke Liye”, “Sa Re Ga Ma”, “Dil Deewana”_ — every generation grew up with him.

*Final Days:* In August 2020, he was admitted to MGM Healthcare, Chennai for COVID-19. After fighting for 50 days, he left us on *25 September 2020* at age 74.

*Legacy:* He didn't just sing songs; he gave emotions a voice. From a village temple to Wembley, his voice lives on.

*Message for Students:* SPB proved that humility is louder than fame. He bowed to every stage, respected every lyricist, and sang every song as if it were his first.

On 25 September, we bow to the man whose voice will never die.

*Heartfelt Tribute to Prafulla Chandra Sen on his Death Anniversary — 25 September 1990*

Prafulla Chandra Sen was the *Gandhian Chief Minister of West Bengal, known for his absolute honesty.*

*Born:* 10 April 1897, Senhati, Khulna (now Bangladesh). Died: 25 September 1990, Kolkata — aged 93. Called *Prafulla Babu* with respect.

*Freedom Fighter & Gandhian:*
- Brilliant student — B.A. from Scottish Church College, Kolkata, then Accountancy in UK
- Left everything and joined Non-Cooperation Movement (1921) inspired by Gandhi
- Jailed many times — total *10 years in British jails*
- True Gandhian — always wore khadi, lived like a saint, had no personal property

*The Honest Chief Minister:*
- *Chief Minister of West Bengal (1962-1967)*
- Before that — Food & Civil Supplies Minister, Health Minister, Finance Minister under Dr. B C Roy
- When he was Food Minister, West Bengal faced severe food crisis. He worked day and night, went from village to village to bring rice. People called him *“Bhater Mantri” (Rice Minister)*
- As CM, he lived in a tiny rented flat, not in Writers’ Building luxury. His only wealth was honesty.

*The Tragic Fall:*
In 1967, due to food crisis and student unrest, Congress lost Bengal for first time. Prafulla Sen himself lost his own seat in Arambagh to Ajoy Mukherjee. He accepted defeat gracefully and retired from politics — never used power for money.

*Awards & Honour:*
People still say — _“After Prafulla Sen, Bengal never saw such an honest leader.”His life is taught in Bengal schools as example of *Gandhian honesty in politics.*

*Message for Students:*
He was Accountant in London, could have been rich. He chose khadi, jail, and a rented room. He proved — politics can be done without corruption.

*Heartfelt Tribute to Dr. Rukhmabai Raut on her Death Anniversary — 25 September 1955*

Dr. Rukhmabai Raut was *India's First Practising Woman Doctor* and one of India's first feminists who fought against child marriage.

*Born:* 22 November 1864, Bombay. Died: 25 September 1955, Bombay — aged 90.

*Child Marriage & Courage:*
Married at age 11 to 19-year-old Janardhan Sakharam Arxikar. She refused to go to her husband's house and continued studying. Her husband filed a case against her in 1884 — the famous *Rukhmabai Case.* The British court ordered her to live with her husband or go to jail.

She boldly wrote: _“I would rather go to jail than obey the order.”_

Her case shook India. Bal Gangadhar Tilak opposed her, but reformers like Behramji Malabari and Justice Ranade supported her. The case led to the *Age of Consent Act, 1891* — raising marriage age from 10 to 12 years.

The case was settled when her husband accepted Rs. 2000 and she was free.

*The Doctor:*
With help from Dr. Edith Pechey and social reformers, she went to *London School of Medicine for Women in 1889.* In 1894, she returned as Doctor of Medicine — *first Indian woman to practise medicine.*

She became Chief Medical Officer at *Cama Hospital, Bombay* for 35 years. She also founded a sanatorium at Rajkot.

She published a powerful feminist book _Purdah — the need for its abolition._

*Legacy:* Google honoured her with a Doodle on 22 Nov 2017. She proved that education is the best weapon against patriarchy.

*Message for Students:* At 11 she was forced into marriage, at 30 she became a doctor from London. She taught us — never accept injustice as fate.

*Heartfelt Tribute to Chaudhary Devi Lal on his Birth Anniversary — 25 September 1914*

Chaudhary Devi Lal was *Tau of Haryana, Messiah of Farmers and Kingmaker of Indian Politics.*

*Born:* 25 September 1914, Chautala village, Sirsa district (now Haryana) to Chaudhary Lekh Ram. Died: 6 April 2001, New Delhi. Son Om Prakash Chautala, Grandson Ajay Singh Chautala, Dushyant Chautala.

*The Freedom Fighter:*
At age 16, left school and joined freedom struggle. Took part in Non-Cooperation Movement. Jailed for 1 year in 1930. In 1942, joined Quit India Movement — jailed for 2 years. Total *5 years in British jails.*

*The Farmer Leader:*
He always wore white kurta-pyjama and green turban. His slogan — _“Kisan Mazdoor ka Raj.”_ As MLA, MP, and leader, he never lost touch with the fields.

*Political Giant:*
- *Chief Minister of Haryana twice (1977-79, 1987-89)*
- *Deputy Prime Minister of India twice (1989-90 under V P Singh, 1990-91 under Chandra Shekhar)*
- Started *Old Age Pension (Rs 100)* for first time in India — now followed by all states
- Started *free electricity for farmers, loan waiver*

He was called *Tau* (elder uncle) with love and respect by all Haryana.

He formed *Lok Dal* and later was founding father of *Janata Dal.* In 1987, his NYO — _Nyaya Yudh_ rally at Boat Club Delhi with 10 lakh farmers is still remembered.

*Awards:* In 2001, his birth anniversary was celebrated as *Kisan Diwas* by Haryana Govt.

*Message for Students:* From a village boy who left school to a Deputy PM who never forgot his village — he proved power should wear a dhoti, not a suit.

*Heartfelt Tribute to Prof. Girjesh Govil on his Birth Anniversary — 25 September 1940*

Prof. Girjesh Govil is the *Pioneer of Molecular Biophysics and NMR Spectroscopy in India.*

*Born:* 25 September 1940, Khurja, UP. Died: 12 May 2021. PhD in Chemistry from Mumbai University (1963) under Prof. G. Govil? Actually studied at Agra, then Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) — where he spent his whole life.

*The Scientist:*
After PhD, he did post-doc at National Physical Laboratory, UK and worked on *Quantum Chemistry and NMR.* Returned to India in 1968 and joined *TIFR, Mumbai* as faculty. Became Senior Professor and Head of Chemical Physics.

His field — *Molecular Biophysics* — was almost unknown in India. He made it famous.

*What he did:*
- First to apply *NMR Spectroscopy, Quantum Mechanics and Molecular Dynamics* to study DNA, RNA, proteins in India
- His research explained how DNA structure bends, how drugs bind to DNA, how proteins fold
- Wrote classic books: _NMR in Biological Systems_ and _Conformation of Biological Molecules_
- Published over *200 research papers* in top journals like Nature, JACS
- Guided more than *40 PhD students* — creating a whole generation of biophysicists

*Awards & Honours:*
- *Padma Shri (2014)*
- *Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize (1978)* — India's highest science award
- Fellow of all science academies: *FNA, FASc, FNASc, FTWAS*
- President of Indian Biophysical Society

*Legacy:*
Every NMR lab in India today follows the path he laid. He showed that you can do world-class biology with physics and chemistry.

*Message for Students:*
He proved — you don't need big machines abroad to do big science. You need big questions. From Khurja to TIFR to world stage, his journey says — curiosity is your best lab.

*Heartfelt Tribute to Arati Saha on her Birth Anniversary — 24 September 1940*

Arati Saha was India's *First Woman Swimming Icon* and the *First Indian & Asian Woman to swim across the English Channel.*

*Born:* 24 September 1940, Kolkata to Panchugopal and Sunita Saha. Died: 23 August 1994.

*Early Life:* She lost her mother at age 11. Her uncle Arun Saha guided her. She learned swimming at Hatkhola Swimming Club. By age 5, she won her first Gold in 110 yards freestyle.

*Champion Swimmer:*
- At age 12, she represented India at the *1952 Helsinki Olympics* — one of the youngest Indian Olympians.
- National Champion continuously from 1945 to 1958 — winning *22 State Championships*.
- At 1952 Olympics, she swam with legend Dolly Nazir.

*The English Channel — 29 September 1959:*
Inspired by Mihir Sen, who crossed the Channel in 1958, Arati decided to attempt.

On 29 September 1959, starting from Cape Gris Nez, France, she swam for *16 hours 20 minutes*, covering *42 miles* in icy water (approx 17°C), battling waves and currents, and reached *Sandgate, England*.

She became the *First Indian Woman, First Asian Woman in the world* to conquer the English Channel. She was only 19.

For this, she was awarded *Padma Shri in 1960* — the first Indian sportswoman to get Padma Shri.

*Later Life:* She worked as a clerk in Bengal Nagpur Railway. Married her coach *Dr. Biren Saha*. Their daughter is Archana.

*Legacy:* India's longest swimming training camp, *Arati Saha Swimming Complex* in Kolkata is named after her. India Post issued a stamp in her honour.

*Message for Students:* She proved that a small girl from North Kolkata lanes can conquer the sea between England and France with courage and practice.

*Heartfelt Tribute to Martyr Pritilata Waddedar — Shahid Divas — 24 September 1932*

Pritilata Waddedar is honoured as *Bengal's First Woman Martyr*.

*Born:* 5 May 1911, Dhalghat village, Patiya, Chittagong (now Bangladesh) to Jagabandhu Waddedar and Pratibha Devi. Nickname — Rani.

*Education:* Dr. Khastagir Govt. Girls' School, Chittagong; Eden Mohila College, Dhaka (topped Dhaka Board); Philosophy Honours from *Bethune College, Kolkata* (1932). She was Headmistress of Nandankanan Aparnacharan School, Chittagong.

*The Revolutionary:*
Inspired by Rani Lakshmibai, she joined *Masterda Surya Sen's Indian Republican Army, Chittagong Branch* in 1932 — at a time when women were not easily accepted in armed struggle. She took part in supplying explosives for Jalalabad battle, telegraph wire cutting, and underground operations.

*24 September 1932 — The Final Attack:*
On the night of 23-24 September, Pritilata led a group of 15 revolutionaries to attack the *Pahartali European Club, Chittagong*. This club had a notorious board outside — *"Dogs and Indians not allowed"* — symbol of British racism.

Her team, dressed as men, torched the club and fired. One person was killed, 11 injured. While retreating, Pritilata was hit by a bullet and surrounded by British police.

To avoid capture, she consumed *potassium cyanide*, as she had decided earlier. She was only *21 years old*.

British police found her body with revolutionary leaflets and a pistol.

*Legacy:*
- The British tried to erase her, but Bengal made her immortal.
- Her sacrifice inspired thousands of Bengali girls to join freedom movement.
- Schools, colleges, halls, and a trust in Bangladesh and West Bengal are named after her.
- Author Ash Sarkar is her great-great-niece.

*Message for Students:* She was a top student, a teacher, and a warrior. She proved that pen and pistol can both serve the motherland. She died so that we could live free.

On 24 September, we bow to the girl who chose death over surrender.

*Heartfelt Tribute to Madam Bhikaiji Cama on her Birth Anniversary — 24 September 1861*

Madam Bhikaiji Cama is called the *Mother of the Indian Revolution*.

*Born:* 24 September 1861, Navsari (then Bombay Presidency) in a wealthy Parsi family. Died: 13 August 1936, Bombay. Her parents were Sorabji Framji Patel and Jaijibai Patel. In 1885 she married Rustom Cama.

*Why we remember her:*

On *22 August 1907*, at the *International Socialist Conference in Stuttgart, Germany*, she unfurled one of the first versions of the Indian National Flag — becoming the *first person to hoist the Indian flag on foreign soil*.

Her flag had green, saffron and red stripes, with 8 lotuses for 8 provinces, crescent moon and sun, and *Vande Mataram* written in the middle in Devanagari. That flag is now kept in Maratha and Kesari Library, Pune.

*Her Work:*
- After moving to London for health reasons, she met Dadabhai Naoroji and joined India House with Shyamji Krishna Varma, Veer Savarkar, Lala Hardayal.
- In 1909 she moved to Paris — her house became headquarters for Indian revolutionaries.
- She helped publish *Bande Mataram* newspaper, which was smuggled into India.
- During World War I, French authorities jailed her for 3 years for anti-British activities, but she kept contact with Indian, Irish and Egyptian revolutionaries.
- She fought not only for freedom but also for *women's rights* — spoke at Hyde Park, London.

*Legacy:* British called her dangerous, but Indians called her Mother. She returned to India in 1935 after 35 years in exile.

*Famous Words in Stuttgart:* "This flag is of Indian Independence! Behold, it is born! It is already sanctified by the blood of martyred Indian youth."

On her 164th Birth Anniversary today (24 Sep), we salute the brave lady who gave India its flag before India was free.

*Heartfelt Tribute to Dr. Autar Singh Paintal*
*24.09.1925 to 21.12.2004*

Dr. Autar Singh Paintal was the Father of Modern Indian Physiology and one of India's greatest medical scientists.

*Born:* 24 September 1925, Mogok, Burma (Myanmar) — his father Dr. Man Singh was a doctor in British Medical Service. Died: 21 December 2004, Delhi.

*Education:* King George Medical College, Lucknow (1948), PhD from University of Edinburgh (1953) as Rockefeller Fellow.

*Major Discoveries:*
- Developed *single-fiber technique* to record nerve impulses — a revolutionary method.
- Discovered *J-receptors (Juxtapulmonary Capillary receptors)* in lungs in 1955 — considered the _First Great Discovery in Medicine in Independent India_. These receptors explain breathlessness, cough, and muscle pain.
- Also discovered atrial B receptors, ventricular pressure receptors, stomach stretch receptors, muscle pain receptors.
- Coined the term *Fusimotor neurons*.

*Positions:*
- Professor at AIIMS, New Delhi
- Director of Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute (VPCI), Delhi (1964-1990)

*Honours:*
- First Indian Physiologist to become *Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS), London*

The Cheetah in India — Extinction and Comeback

*1. Disappearance:*
The Cheetah (from Sanskrit Chitrak— the spotted one) once roamed across India from Gujarat to Bengal. Due to hunting by royalty, use for coursing, loss of grassland habitat and prey base, numbers crashed.

The last three wild cheetahs were shot by Maharaja Ramanuj Pratap Singh Deo of Koriya princely state (now Chhattisgarh) in 1947. In *1952, Govt of India officially declared the cheetah extinct in India* — the only large carnivore to go extinct in the country.

*2. Return — Project Cheetah:*
After 70 years, India launched world's first inter-continental translocation of a large carnivore.
- *17 Sept 2022:* 8 cheetahs from Namibia released in Kuno National Park, MP by PM Modi Ji
- *Feb 2023:* 12 more from South Africa
- *Feb 2026:* 9 more from Botswana

*3. Current Status — 56:*
On *18th September 2026*, just a day after Project Cheetah completed 4 years, India-born female KGP12 gave birth to 4 cubs in Kuno — taking India's total to *56*.

Breakup as of 18 Sept 2026:
*Total: 56* — 36 are India-born, 20 are African-origin
*53 in Kuno National Park* and 3 in Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary,

This second-generation birth (KGP12 is daughter of South African cheetah Gamini) proves cheetahs are now adapting and breeding in Indian conditions — a big hope for revival.
