Talks stopped because the UK accepted the right to self determination. You can't negotiate away someone else's nationality.

I legit never understood the Argentine claim to the Falklands. The people there are British and want to stay that way. Britain has claimed the islands since 1765, before Argentina was a country. It seems to boil down to "uh, they're closer to us."
