What is one boundary you wish came pre-installed with your marriage certificate?
I'll go first.
His mother is not the bride on the certificate. She needs to stop acting like it.

Five things worth the money when you live with your in laws:
1. A good therapist
2. A good couples counsellor
3. Antidepressants
4. Lock for your door
5. Vacations with husband

So you're telling me that you expect your daughter in law to live with you because you can't bear the thought of living without your son.
But when your daughter gets married the biggest advice you can give her is to not live with her in laws to avoid the pain and heartache.
Make it make sense....

You become the most hated daughter in law once they realise that they can no longer poison your mind, and then they start poisoning the mind of those around you.
The smear campaign is a desperate attempt to comfort themselves because they've lost the grip on you.

Story Time.
When I got married, everyone congratulated me on my new home.
But nobody warned me that it wouldn't feel like home.
Every cupboard already had a place.
Every routine had already been decided.
Every meal had already been planned.
Every expectation had already been written... except no one handed me the rulebook.
I wasn't just learning where the spoons were kept.
I was learning who spoke first.
Who stayed quiet.
What time I should wake up.
How I should dress.
When it was okay to visit my own family.
How much of myself I was expected to leave behind to fit into a house that had been someone else's for decades.
Whenever I did something differently, it wasn't simply "different."
It was "not how we do things here."
People say, "You'll get used to it."
But sometimes the hardest part isn't adjusting to a new house.
It's grieving the version of yourself that once felt comfortable taking up space.
Did anyone else feel like they moved into a house... but spent years trying to earn the right to call it home? ๐ค

If you've ever felt...
...like an outsider in your in-laws' home.
...alone in a house that was supposed to become yours too.
...judged for how you cook, clean, dress or simply exist.
...like no matter how much you give, it's never enough.
...misunderstood, unheard or expected to stay silent.
...torn between keeping the peace and protecting yourself.
...like everyone expects you to adjust, but no one asks how you're coping.
Then this is the account for you.
A safe space for daughters-in-law to feel seen, heard and understood.
Because your story matters.
And you don't have to carry it alone. ๐ค

They said I didn't eat.
No one asked what I liked.
The meals I enjoyed were rarely made,
and when they were, I ate with gratitude.
But then came new questions.
"You shouldn't eat that."
"Why don't you eat this instead?"
"What do you actually eat?"
As though I hadn't answered that question a dozen times before.
I was told not eating the food was disrespect.
Yet no one ever wondered if respect could also look like asking,
"What would you like me to make?"
Sometimes the hardest thing to swallow isn't the food.
It's realising no one was ever interested in knowing your taste.

A daughter can be late. She's busy.
A daughter-in-law is late. She's disrespectful.
A daughter goes out with friends. "Have fun. Enjoy yourself."
A daughter-in-law goes out. "Where are you going? Who will be there? What time will you be back?"
A daughter comes home to visit. "Stay another night. We never see you enough."
A daughter-in-law wants to visit her parents. "How long will you be gone? Who will manage the house? Can't you visit another time?"
A daughter has preferences. They're accepted.
A daughter-in-law has preferences. They're questioned.
A daughter shares her opinion. They listen.
A daughter-in-law shares the same opinion. "It wasn't your place."
A daughter is allowed to make mistakes. They're part of growing up.
A daughter-in-law makes the same mistake. It's a reflection of her character.
People often say,
"We treat our daughter-in-law like our own daughter."
But daughters aren't expected to earn the grace they're freely given.
The difference was never the behaviour.
It was who was allowed to do it.
