COMELEC SAYS GABRIELA TO GET 64TH PARTY-LIST SEAT IN HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) announced Sunday that Gabriela Women's Party 1st nominee Sarah Elago is set to be proclaimed as the 64th winning party-list representative in the House of Representatives.

COMELEC Chairperson George Erwin Garcia said the move is meant to comply with the constitutional requirement that party-list representatives comprise 20 percent of the House.

"Actually kung hindi tayo nagkakamali, officially ko nang babanggitin sa inyo, mukhang Gabriela party-list po yun," Garcia told DZMM.

He explained that after reviewing the 63 party-list seats proclaimed in Halalan 2025, they accounted for only 19.8 percent of the House, short of the 20-percent requirement. With the 64th seat, the party-list allocation would reach 20.4 percent, slightly exceeding the constitutional threshold.

The COMELEC en banc is set to decide on the matter Wednesday, with the official proclamation of the 64th party-list representative tentatively scheduled for Thursday.
