The APC Campaign Council: Nigerians Deserve a New Direction

I have taken note of the recently constituted APC Presidential Campaign Council, whose composition offers Nigerians a clear picture of the choice before us in the 2027 general election.

The council brings together many of the same political actors who have supported, defended or participated in the present administration. Their coming together raises a fundamental question: what exactly are they asking Nigerians to vote for in 2027, a new beginning, or the continuation of the same system that has brought severe hardship to our people?

The truth is, I see the 2027 election as a struggle between the oppressed Nigerian masses and those who have benefited from, defended and sustained the system responsible for their hardship.

It is concerning to all well-meaning Nigerians whose across the country, their families are struggling with the rising cost of food and basic necessities. Young Nigerians face unemployment and diminishing opportunities. Farmers and businesses are struggling to survive, while millions continue to live with insecurity. Our education, healthcare and other essential public services remain under enormous pressure.

This ruling campaign structure presents another scenario between the oppressors and the oppressed. We must use it come 2027 election to reject continued oppression and demand accountable, people-centred governance. If Osun people can do it, so can all other parts of the country.

I particularly appeal to my brother, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, who has accepted to serve as Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, to reflect deeply and reconsider accepting this responsibility.

As a former governor of Zamfara State and a prominent leader from the North-West, I believe Senator Yari has a clear understanding of the devastating consequences of insecurity, poverty, unemployment, displacement and the destruction of livelihoods in the region and the country at large.

I therefore will be surprised if in his good conscience, will lead a campaign whose principal objective is to secure the continuation of a government under which many of the people he once governed, and other innocent Nigerians remain trapped in these challenges?

There is also a serious institutional question concerning the inclusion of the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Dr Zacch Adedeji, and the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Dr Tanimu Yakubu Kurfi, in the campaign’s fundraising and finance structures.

The leadership of critical public institutions demands neutrality, integrity and public confidence. It is therefore legitimate to ask whether the responsibilities of senior officials entrusted with managing public revenue and national finances can appropriately coexist with senior partisan campaign roles.

The government and the APC should explain how such arrangements are consistent with institutional neutrality and public trust.

Ultimately, no campaign council is more powerful than the Nigerian people. - RMK

A WARNING TO THE TINUBU ENABLERS: HISTORY IS WATCHING

There comes a point when political support stops being ordinary party loyalty and becomes complicity in defending conduct that demands serious public scrutiny.

To every politician, propagandist, official, business associate and political operator who continues to shield Bola Ahmed Tinubu from legitimate questions about his past and his dealings with foreign governments: you are placing yourselves on the wrong side of history.

As far as I am concerned, anyone who knowingly places the interests of one politician above the security, sovereignty and constitutional interests of Nigeria is acting against the interests of the state.

I regard the unresolved questions surrounding Tinubu’s relationship with American law-enforcement and intelligence agencies as a national-security matter. The extraordinary struggle over the release of American government records concerning him only makes independent scrutiny more urgent.

I will not state allegations as established facts where the evidence does not establish them. But neither will I allow unanswered questions to be buried beneath propaganda.

If there is documentary evidence proving that Tinubu disclosed Nigerian state secrets, acted as a foreign intelligence asset, or improperly served a foreign power, release it and let Nigerians judge it. If there is evidence disproving those allegations, release that too.

That is what transparency means.

And to those defending him: political association alone does not establish criminal guilt. But knowingly concealing wrongdoing, obstructing accountability or helping put foreign interests ahead of Nigeria would be another matter entirely.

Nigeria is bigger than Tinubu. Nigeria is bigger than the APC. And Nigeria is certainly bigger than the political fortunes of the people surrounding one President.

Your loyalty should be to the Federal Republic of Nigeria—not to one man.

The age of unquestioning protection is ending. The documents must come out. The questions must be answered. And everyone who knowingly helped conceal the truth should expect history—and, where the evidence warrants it, the law—to examine their conduct.

Nigeria first. No individual is above the Republic.

AN OPEN LETTER TO KASH PATEL, DIRECTOR OF THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION

Letters from Stockholm

Dear Director Patel,

I write to you as a Nigerian of the diaspora, a Swedish citizen, and the founder of Worldview International, on behalf of millions of Nigerians at home and abroad who have watched your Bureau's conduct before Judge Beryl Howell with growing disbelief.

On August 20, 2026, your agency filed a motion asking the United States District Court for the District of Columbia for permission to explain, in secret, ex parte and in camera, why it continues to withhold records concerning Bola Ahmed Tinubu, records dating to 1992 and 1993, records connected to a Chicago heroin trafficking investigation, records a federal judge ordered you to process more than a year ago. You claim their release could endanger lives and reveal law enforcement techniques. Techniques from 1993, Director. Thirty-three years old. The rotary telephone was still in service.

So permit me to ask you the question every Nigerian is asking.

Why is Bola Tinubu's file more sacred to your Bureau than the Epstein files?

Your administration promised the American people transparency on Jeffrey Epstein, files in which your own President's name has reportedly appeared, alongside the names of some of the most powerful men in the Western world. That promise collapsed into memos, redactions and retreat. And yet here you are, three years into Greenspan v. Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys, deploying the full machinery of the Department of Justice, extension after extension, Glomar responses that Judge Howell ruled improper, sealed declarations, secret submissions, all to shield the file of a foreign head of state who, in 1993, forfeited 460,000 US dollars to your government in a civil action alleging the funds were proceeds of heroin trafficking.

He was never charged, you will say. Correct. He simply handed over the money and walked away. Innocent men do not ordinarily pay the United States Treasury nearly half a million dollars to make questions disappear. And your Bureau's conduct since, producing not a single processed page despite a court order, despite your own promised timetables of January, March and June of this year, despite the open irritation of a federal judge who noted this case has been pending for over three years, tells its own story.

Why is this man so important to your agency, Director?

What service has Bola Tinubu rendered the United States that earns him protection your own citizens cannot obtain about their own government? Was he a source? An asset? A cooperator? If so, say it. If not, release the file. The Freedom of Information Act does not contain an exemption for the embarrassment of foreign presidents.

Let me tell you what your lawyers in Washington may not have explained to you. Nigerians are not fools. We are among the most educated diasporas in the United States, your own census data confirms it. We read court filings. We know what a Glomar response is. We know what ex parte means. We watched Judge Howell rule in April 2025 that your refusal to confirm the existence of records was, in her words, neither logical nor plausible, because your agencies had already acknowledged that Tinubu was a subject of investigation. Playing games with our intelligence will not work.

And understand this clearly. You may have leverage over one man. You do not have leverage over 230 million Nigerians. Nigeria is Africa's largest democracy, a trading partner worth billions of dollars annually to American business, the anchor of West Africa. Bola Tinubu will leave office, whether in 2027 or before. The government that follows him, and the generation that elects it, will remember precisely who shielded him, and why. A partnership built on the concealment of one man's past is not a partnership with Nigeria. It is a partnership against her.

There are also questions this file may finally settle that go to the heart of our 2027 presidential election. Questions about identity, about credentials, about a biography that has never withstood scrutiny, questions currently before Nigeria's own Federal High Court in the Atiku Abubakar suit over his eligibility. Nigerian voters have a right to the truth before they vote, not after.

Director Patel, you built your public reputation denouncing the deep state, secret files, and two-tiered justice. You wrote a book about government gangsters. Here is your test. The box is already open. The dots are already connected. Every day of delay, every sealed declaration, every extension request is itself an answer, because no agency fights this hard, this long, to conceal a clean record.

Release the Tinubu files. All of them. Let Nigerians judge for themselves.

History is watching you, and so are we.
