solana:Hg5Ja55T5wESq4vyFoiVCMeHXtGyVA69X2UHq8hgpump is exposing the biggest challenge for pumpfun’s PUMP pair strategy.. winning token distribution doesn’t mean winning its liquidity.
in a recent 24h snapshot, BATON/PUMP on pumpswap generated $409k in volume against $788k in liquidity.
two BATON/SOL pools on meteora generated $2.7m against $854k in liquidity.
6.6x the volume with only 8% more aggregate liquidity.
this matters because pumpfun isn’t just competing for trading fees.. it’s trying to establish PUMP as a quote asset across its ecosystem.
every token that develops deeper, more active SOL markets instead of PUMP markets makes that transition harder.
the issue isn’t missing routing infrastructure. pumpswap already supports multi-hop swaps through PUMP.
the issue is economics.
meteora’s DLMM offers concentrated liquidity and volatility-responsive fees. SOL also benefits from established liquidity and routing integrations. traders seek competitive execution, while LPs weigh fee income against inventory risk.
the curve wars offer a useful precedent.. curve used gauges and third-party incentives to attract liquidity, while uniswap v3 demonstrated how concentrated liquidity can improve capital efficiency.
pumpfun can apply those principles without copying their exact architecture.
first, compete for LP capital. give PUMP-paired liquidity providers better position management, competitive fee structures and targeted community-funded incentives that compensate for holding PUMP rather than SOL.
second, compete for execution. deepen PUMP/SOL and BATON/PUMP liquidity so routing SOL through PUMP can compete with direct BATON/SOL trades on total execution cost, including fees and price impact.
third, make it sustainable. use incentives to bootstrap useful liquidity, then let organic trading volume and LP fee income support those pools without permanent subsidies.
the goal isn’t to force traders to use PUMP. it’s to make PUMP routes economically competitive and PUMP liquidity attractive enough that both traders and LPs voluntarily choose them.
that creates the conditions for more persistent PUMP inventory demand across the ecosystem, while volume retained on pumpswap can contribute protocol revenue to its buyback mechanism.
but more pairs alone don’t lock supply, and routing through PUMP doesn’t guarantee net buying pressure.
BATON shows why this matters.
pumpfun can originate the attention, the token and the community.. while another protocol captures much of the trading volume.
if PUMP is going to become the ecosystem’s denominator, pumpfun has to win the liquidity battle after the launch.
distribution gets the token into the market. execution and LP economics determine where the market trades it.
$FONE UPDATE
$FONE really out here doing the most boring thing possible and that’s exactly why it looks bullish.
After the initial hype spike and full roundtrip, price has been glued around the 5M zone just chopping sideways.
No panic, no real breakdown, just slow, tight consolidation while everyone on CT moved on to the next shiny thing.
$FONE That’s usually the reload zone. Weak hands got farmed on the way down, now it’s just patience and positioning.
$FONE You can see the volatility drying up which is classic pre move behavior on these Solana memes.
Narrative still strong too $FONE are timeless on the internet, easy memes, easy virality, and when one of these catches momentum it spreads fast. It doesn’t need a new story, it just needs attention again.
