In the span of a few years, I watched Celine's father die on a gurney, my mother died, my mother-in-law died, my father died; last month I had to put down my 19yr-old cat. Last Friday, I'd agreed to a divorce from the love of my life, & later that day, my brother died.

I remember telling Grant and others that "Who says we're gonna miss our families on Thanksgiving? We have our soccer family today."

Today we lost a member of our soccer family.

Grant was not just a dedicated and extremely talented journalist, but more importantly, a kind person.

The previous week, US Soccer and MLS hosted the American soccer media at a Thanksgiving luncheon at the swanky Flying Carpet restaurant inside the Torch Hotel adjacent to Khalifa Stadium.

Grant was a champion for women's soccer. His dedication to covering the women's game helped bring equality to the game. 

I last saw Grant a little over a week ago in Al Gharafa at the USMNT training facility prior to the Netherlands game.
