"In the past year, I’ve watched the mayor deftly defuse difficult sore points that have been allowed to fester by previous administrations......He and city council must do the same thing with this particular issue, and do it fast."
The fun police are at it again. Last time, they tried to ban fireworks on Canada Day; now they're trying to ban music during Stampede. Say no to the fun police by signing the Save Music During Stampede petition now: https://t.co/DrsJVuBn2G via @CommonSenseYYC
If the city does not change course, I hope the Premier and government go further.
The stampede is a significant economic driver in our province. We will not let the fun police destroy our province or our culture.
Let freedom reign. 🎵

City Hall gatekeepers are making a big mistake killing jobs, smothering country music culture, and cutting back performances at the world-famous Cowboys celebration during the Calgary Stampede.
Millions flock to the Stampede because IT IS FUN to stay up late and listen to loud music. That brings nearly a billion dollars in tourism and excitement for the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.
Hopefully, City Hall will let this 30-year-old music event continue as it has in years past and grow.
We don’t need to start changing the rules for THE GREATEST OUTDOOR SHOW ON EARTH
Several of my colleagues met with city admin Friday afternoon and I hope there is will on Council to keep the Stampede the Great Time that it is!
The City of Calgary got this one wrong.
Cutting music hours during Stampede hurts workers, businesses, and visitors while creating larger public safety concerns by forcing thousands of people to leave venues at the same time.
Time to reverse this decision.
Looks like the fun police have struck again in Calgary, this time targeting the Calgary Stampede music scene.
By reducing allowable noise levels and shutting shows down early on weeknights, the city will negatively affect hundreds of workers and create additional public safety and crowd-management problems due to guests leaving in a shorter timeframe.
Many major festivals and entertainment districts across North America successfully operate without these types of restrictions.
Stampede is one of Calgary's signature events, attracting hundreds of thousands of residents and visitors who come to enjoy the attractions, live music, and the unique energy of our city.
The Mayor and Council should work with bylaw to reconsider these restrictions and work with festival operators to find a solution that balances community concerns with the economic and cultural benefits these events bring to Calgary.

Rona is right. If the @cityofcalgary wants to keep building a world class city, it can't changes the rules on major music festival operators like @CowboysFestival days before their event.
Great acts won't come here with that uncertainty. I hope @JeromyYYC understands that.
This whole debate is about one week and some noise ?! The Cowboys tent used be not far from our house and yes, I could hear it for a few hours past midnight - but it only lasted for those Stampede nights and then it was done. And it is part of the incredible music culture that is the @calgarystampede Let’s embrace the fact that our city @calgary can attract these incredible music talents and is a place that people come from
All over the world for fun! #FUN @JeromyYYC
