@KYGolfHoles@LifetimeIP@notgaetti If you look at them as a whole he was trending down in everyway and then had a great year. I think something similar happened with Alfonso Soriano late in his career. They positioned him extremely well and his defensive metrics improved considerably.
@KYGolfHoles@LifetimeIP@notgaetti Or maybe he changed his game as he aged and learned different things. Or maybe he changed teams and had new coaches. He possibly tried a few different things with different pitching staffs. You think it's strange that he played beside and with different people/coaches?
@NJpla413330@notgaetti Wait Sparky said that? Hot damn, if Sparky said that he's HoF material....I rescind everything. Didn't know Sparky was in on this guy. I apologize to Sparky, his family and the nation at large. Sparky Anderson said he was the best? I'm on my knees begging for forgiveness.
@KYGolfHoles@LifetimeIP@notgaetti Pick whatever stat you like, Omar Visquel should not have been an every day player for the last 7/8 years of his career. He was replacement level at SS in almost every way and I watched him play! You're missing the joke with errors and fielding %. Bad SS's just avoid the ball...
@KYGolfHoles@LifetimeIP@notgaetti I don't understand your question about 'estimated based stats' so I didn't answer. I can 100% play SS in the majors if my goal is no errors and a high fielding %. Derek Jeter, 0.981 fld% -24 defensive runs saved... (I could obviously not play major league SS).
@NJpla413330@notgaetti He literally won a world series with my team, none of this is a Hall of Fame case I'm afraid. Because a bunch of GMs were wrong in the 80s we should bend the knee to a good to border line great pitcher and put him in the HoF?
@notgaetti@PaxRomanAnthony Give comparison like that and the compilers fall off a cliff. Sustained high tops like Felix, trout etc are far more valuable than long, winding, middling careers where your name carried you for a decade.
@notgaetti@PaxRomanAnthony I love baseball and I don't need WAR for everything. The best question to ask guys about players like Morris or Visquel is simple. If you could draft one player today given their careers, who would you take. Felix Hernandez or Morris. It's Felix and not really close.
@Augmets97@eldiesel87@notgaetti Francisco Lindor is having basically the first bad season of his career and it might be injury fueled. If he does this for 8 more years. He's Omar Visquel.
@KYGolfHoles@LifetimeIP@notgaetti I would also make zero errors if I were playing SS right now. Can't make an error if you can't the ball... What an insane thing to say in 2026. Errors and fielding %?!?
@NJpla413330@notgaetti I watched him at the end unfortunately. He's not a bad pitcher but he's far from a HoF pitcher in my opinion. He was great in 91/92 but the years surrounding that were awful. His peak was never even in the conversation for the best pitcher of his era.
@daniel_jackett@notgaetti Cal Ripken was a 2 win player every year basically from age 36-40... What are you talking about... He was a really good player at 38!!
