#OnThisDay in 1993, Shane Warne bowled his first ball in England and that turned out to be the Ball of the Century.

It drifted lazily onto leg stump, then spat back a yard or two and clipped the top of off.

Realise there's a bit of flux with the managerial situation at Gateshead - but what a boost this is for them.

Fenton's progress last season was outstanding and he will be a key player moving forwards under a new manager.

Believe there were EFL clubs interested too.

Fenton is here to STAY! 🤍🖤

We're delighted to confirm that Fenton John has signed a two-year contract extension at Gateshead until May 2028! 🤝

The 22-year-old pens a two-year extension following a breakthrough season across all competitions which saw him make 47 appearances for The Heed - the most of any player during the 2025/26 season.

John's outstanding performances in midfield throughout the campaign earned him two accolades at the club's End of Season Awards evening, as he was named both the Young Player of the Season and Supporters' Player of the Season.

The midfielder first joined the club in July 2024 and saw first-team opportunities limited during the 2024/25 season, grasping the opportunity to develop out on loan with temporary spells at Morpeth Town and Stockton Town before returning to cement his place as a first-team regular at Gateshead last season.

Great to have you with us for another two years, Fents!

The club will release details of the full retained list of playing staff ahead of the 2026/27 season as soon as it is possible.
