Putin’s ‘three-day special military operation’ has now lasted longer than the entire length of the First World War.
Ukrainians have bravely resisted Russia’s invasion and Britain will always stand with you. #StandWithUkraine
We owe those who serve the UK the kit to do the job and the loyalty to stand by them when it's done. We are failing on both.
I’ve spent my whole time in government making that case. Number 10 will not listen, so I am resigning as Minister for the Armed Forces.

82 years ago, 14,000 Canadians landed on Juno Beach, many of whom would never come home.
On the anniversary of D-Day, we pause to honour those who served and sacrificed. We remember that our rights, our freedoms, and our way of life were fought for and were won by those who answered the call.
82 years ago, British, American and Allied pilots flew C-47 Dakotas over Normandy, dropping paratroopers behind enemy lines.
Many didn't come home.
This week I flew in one of those original Dakotas. Same airframe. Same bullet holes. A small way to pay tribute to the greatest generation and to the alliance that delivered them there.
Freedom isn't free. It never was. And the country they came home to was one they'd built together, with people they'd never have met if the war hadn't thrown them in the same aircraft.
That's the lesson worth passing on this D-Day. Together is how you get through it. That's still true.
We can confirm the names of the three Royal Navy personnel who tragically lost their lives during a helicopter training exercise on 3 June:
Lt Cdr Chris Gayson, 42, Somerset
Lt Lily-Mae Fisher, 31, Surrey
PO Owen Green, 24, Hampshire

Lieutenant Commander Gayson, Lieutenant Fisher and Petty Officer Green embodied the best of our Armed Forces. Their loss is truly devastating.
Tonight, we are all thinking of their families, loved ones and those who served alongside them at this deeply tragic time.
While Putin speaks from safe halls, Zelensky is once again with the troops on the front line. 🇺🇦
Dedicated and determined🫡
Respect to this man, every day❤️
Russia and the U.S. will play a hockey game on July 1st in Moscow. This is humiliating and disgraceful. Any U.S. hockey player that attends this barbaric sportswashing of Russian genocide should be canceled and shunned for life. Let’s start exposing them.
‼️BACON: Russia is bombing Ukrainian cities every night with ballistic missiles and hypersonic missiles, and we better be there to help them, or in the history books it's gonna say, "United States failed when it's most needed."
“Are we gonna stand with good, or are we gonna stand with evil? That's what this is about tonight. Ukraine is a democracy, it's a free market, it's rule of law. It's been invaded by a dictator who throws his enemies off of roofs, poisons his adversaries, and he attacked his neighbor that's four times smaller than Russia. What's the goal? To eliminate their independence, to eliminate them as a culture, as a people, 'cause he wants to control those old borders of his that he has had. We gotta stand for the good side tonight. What does this bill do? It provides $1.3 billion in direct military aid, and $8 billion in military sales, and provides tough sanctions on Russia. We should have done this a year ago. We could have done this in a bipartisan way year ago, but we have not. This decision is needed now. Russia is bombing Ukrainian cities every night with ballistic missiles and hypersonic missiles, and we better be there to help them, or in the history books it's gonna say, "United States failed when it's most needed." And I know this, I want this House to stand on the right side. I want Republicans to stand where Ronald Reagan would be if he was here right now. Ronald Reagan would be voting yes tonight. He'd be standing up for Ukraine and opposing Russia. This is our Churchill moment or our Chamberlain moment, and by God, I'm gonna choose Churchill, and this House better choose Churchill tonight. With that, I yield” - @RepDonBacon on Thursday, June 4th, 2026
More of CNN's false equivalence language. Ukraine is not targeting St. Petersburg, but striking military installations, Russian warships, and oil refineries. It's the Russian terror state that strikes cities and targets civilians. https://t.co/Cy7DgqtkuT
You can all see that Ukraine’s positions on the frontline are strong and that we are gradually taking back occupied territory. In May, Russia achieved almost no meaningful results on the battlefield. And that matters.
Please also pay attention to Russia's losses. They're losing 30,000 to 35,000 troops every month. And the nature of those losses changed in the past year: around 63% killed and another 37% seriously wounded. These are massive irreversible losses.
Even for Russia, this is becoming a serious problem, because the overall size of its occupation forces is shrinking.
From an address to the participants of the NATO–Ukraine Council meeting in Kyiv (2/5).
The Russians offered to “exchange” children for soldiers. But how can you exchange children? That’s impossible,” Zelenskyy said.
“First of all, it violates the law: civilians cannot be exchanged - they must be returned. Therefore, the very concept of such an ‘exchange’ is unacceptable,” the president noted.
The very fact of such a proposal from the Russia only confirms that the abducted children were indeed taken away.
