Wild Fires have dramatically increased this year. At the same time, fire services are facing cuts, (which @fbunational are resisting).

@PhilGarrigan is Chair of the National Fire Chiefs Council⁠ and has spoken about a new norm, where the wildfire season will last until November.

Climate change lies at the root of this new phenomenon. And as much as the fire service needs to gear up, we need to reduce carbon emissions.

@andyburnham can you talk to @UnionSteveW and @PhilGarrigan to establish a new project to physically fight and stop wildfires. AND use firefighter’s unique relationship with the public to become ambassadors to stop climate change.

If we need new homes, then they have to be built using the highest environmental standards and have the infrastructure provided by the developer to support them.
Parking should be limited and put to one-side on the site.

My second fear is that the powers given to the Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, are likely to lead to a certain lack of democracy. This will be particularly relevant in regard to road building and planning.
The current mayor favours motor cars. He wants to dual the road from Ely to Cambridge, despite there being an excellent train service tot the three stations in Cambridge. Apart from the cost, this is environmentally unsound, it will increase car use and add to congestion and pollution when this traffic hits Cambridge.
The ability for the Mayor to override local planning decisions is more than scary. It is an outright challenge to the non-partisan way that planning is carried out by elected Cllrs currently.

As Cambridge waits for labour to decide the format of the new unitary that it will join, I continue to fear that our city will lose the ability to serve Cambridge residents.
This will be particularly true if the new unitary is Greater Cambridge, because the suburbs and villages will have a greater representation than the city. In outcome this is likely to lead to a LibDem controlled council, with the majority of their Cllrs being from outside of the city. My question then is where will these Cllrs spend the money? Will they favour their villages or the city?

This wildfire season has laid bare years of chronic underfunding in the fire service.

Large scale incidents eat up resources fast, and control firefighters are managing it all with 25% fewer staff than in 2010.

Splendid outcome.
It’s great we have another toilet open. @CambridgeLDs have shown that despite all the hand wringing by @CambridgeLabour, about budget restraints, it was never essential that this toilet was shut.
The toilet on Mill Rd, now needs to be opened. Maybe having lost seats in Romsey and Petersfield at the last election to @CambridgeGreens and pressure from @MillRoad4People can overcome labour’s pleas that there is not enough money!

'There is now a mountain of evidence to show that the Ulez has slashed air pollution and improved air quality across London, and research published by Imperial College London earlier this year showed that this is already saving lives. Between 2019 (when I first introduced the Ulez) and 2024, estimated deaths associated with air pollution in the capital fell by around 40%.
But a new, independent study published by Queen Mary University of London today goes further still, showing how – by helping to clean up the capital’s air – the Ulez is improving the lungs and lives of London’s children.

Young children are the first to feel the impact of air pollution. They breathe faster than adults, and more often through their mouths, allowing more pollution to pass into their bodies. Their heads are lower to the ground, too, meaning they’re closer to vehicle exhausts pumping out poisonous chemicals. And, because they’re still growing, long-term exposure to air pollution can do lasting damage to their development, leading to problems such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer when they’re older.
