“Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.”
Today, on Juneteenth, we honor the Black leaders, artists, organizers, dreamers, and disruptors who moved history forward, including Bayard Rustin, whose work shaped the Civil Rights Movement and whose refusal to hide who he was became its own act of liberation.
Rustin understood that freedom without authenticity isn’t freedom at all.
His legacy lives alongside the countless Black queer people, named and unnamed, who forged paths, opened doors, challenged systems, created culture, and made more room for all of us to exist fully.
This Juneteenth, we celebrate liberation in all its forms. ❤️🖤💚🌈
