An event like Jan 6 doesn't necessarily need 100% participation of the crowd to be successful or to bring a strong enough threat to undermine democracy. That would be a pretty high bar to set in defining events.

I just think Jan 6 raised the stakes to a more existential question beyond policy preferences, heightened by a violent triggering event, even though, maybe technically, not every single person in the crowd was an insurrectionist.
