The death of Gold Dancer at Aintree today was not a surprise. The reaction of the apologists for slaughter and mistreatment of animals was expected. They say they do all they can to safeguard horses’ welfare but this is palpably untrue.

Anaconda was killed at Wetherby. 3 year olds are too young to jump. No answers. No explanations. No accountability. When will the avoidable butchery end?

Stringtoyourbow was another horse racing fatality today. Barely a mention anywhere.Good to see the horse racing industry doing all it can to prevent such deaths.

@MistyDoverIT @itvracing Neither the industry nor television really cares what happens to horses. We always receive the same glib messages when horses die avoidably and are told it’s a risk we have to face. This is cynical and manipulative.

Dujardin rightly punished. How come the Dutch volleyball player is being allowed to take part in the Olympics? Don’t get it. Another horse death at Salisbury last night where Atty’s Edge was killed. Must highlight every single instance of horse abuse,hold authorities accountable.

I do hope you are able to make racetracks and horse racing authorities more accountable for their part in improving equine safety.

There is absolutely no evidence to support the fundamentally flawed concept that horses are bred to jump. Even if there was, the number of horse deaths would still render jumping obstacles inexcusable.

Racing is a blood sport and should be recognised as such. Removing hurdles and fences is the least that can be done if the sport seeks longevity. Society is changing and this cavalier approach to horse safety will soon be doomed.

Another fatality in Uttoxeter’s 4-33 race today. Valsad was the latest victim of Horseracing’s authorities’ inability to protect these beautiful animals, even on a soft surface which is supposed to cushion horses’ falls. Where on earth is the accountability?

Now Hidden Law has died tragically at Chester. The inescapable truth is that the accident could easily have been avoided. Why are roads necessary on racetracks and, incredibly, next to the winning post when horses are racing at full throttle and the impact of mishaps maximised?

The death of Gesskille is in no way acceptable or justifiable. Apologists who say ‘that’s racing’ do not have the interests of these beautiful animals at heart.
