These people are pathetic - can’t even show their (white) faces - and need to be mocked and laughed at until they slither back into the holes they emerged from. https://t.co/wiYDzdzMOA
Science of learning TL;DR
➡️ Remembering stuff is good.
➡️ To think, you need stuff to think with.
➡️ If you have stuff in your long-term memory you can think about stuff much more deeply.
➡️ Retrieving stuff from your long-term memory helps it stay there.
➡️ Retrieval doesn’t just reveal memory; it reshapes it.
➡️ Spacing out retrieval helps you remember it even better.
➡️ Most skills are probably domain specific and don’t transfer.
➡️ Learning to read is much harder than learning to talk.
➡️ Working memory is the arena where thinking occurs but you can only hold 3-5 items of new stuff at once.
➡️ You can get around the previous point by having stuff in your long-term memory.
➡️ Just because you’re engaged, doesn’t mean you’re learning anything.
➡️ Learning stuff can feel like you’re not learning anything at all and vice versa.
➡️ Accomplishing stuff often leads to motivation not the other way round.
➡️ Discovery learning is not a good way to discover stuff.
➡️ Plan teaching to help kids remember things so they can understand more, make more connections and think deeply about stuff later on.

Powerful words from Arundhati Roy: I refuse to play the condemnation game. Let me make myself clear. I do not tell oppressed people how to resist their oppression or who their allies should be.

In the last 24 hours Israel has:
- opened fire on UN peacekeeping forces in 3 bases
- killed 28 refugees in a school in Gaza
- killed 40 plus civilians in Central Beirut
and Nelson Mandela's grandson has been banned from the UK for criticising Israel.
Dystopia is here now.
@aliceleung Still trying to work out why the announcement didn’t mention Taylor Swift. In the full commendation maybe? 😉
Congratations! Fully merited. Very happy for you.
@Asher_Wolf Perhaps gives away my vintage to say that this description reminds me immediately of Carnivale on HBO, although it got 2 seasons before being unceremoniously dumped.
@MoistenedTart Strangely though, I couldn’t sleep until 5:30 this morning. Physically tired, happy with the work, on school holidays … and awake until the next day. Sigh.
@MoistenedTart Nice. I spent 6 hours on the roof on Saturday, then 3 more hours on Sunday followed by 6 hours cleaning up the aftermath in the yard.
But our gutters have never looked better and I spent hours away from screens which was relaxing in a way.
The biggest challenge of the science of learning movement isn’t convincing people that X pedagogy works or doesn’t. It’s convincing people that there is a science to teaching and that this matters.
