My toddler bursts into my office: “Daaaady! My brother was trying to be the king and I am trying to be the king! And he won’t let me be the king…so I hit him.” Behold, all of human history.
@homebringwine The irony is that the Aaronic blessing actually has some deep irony, in the classic sense, embedded in it! I preached a sermon on the blessing and I titled it "An Ironic Blessing" https://t.co/fRsKbcM6X5
@matthew_loftus There is a short story waiting to be written in the spirt of The Screwtape Letters or Dante's Inferno where Hell is portrayed as The Algorithm applied to our thoughts and life choices
Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.
I bind unto myself the Name,
The strong Name of the Trinity,
By invocation of the same,
The Three in One and One in Three.

I don't normally comment on the news of the day, but the shooting of Charlie Kirk is so wicked and so grievous. It's sad to see my own kids affected. Like many Gen Zers, they love his videos. I'm grateful for the many times he clearly and cheerfully made much of Jesus Christ. If you want to honor his legacy, pick up a Bible, read about Jesus, and see what Kirk believed in. May God bless his family. May God bless America.
My Kid: I finally managed to skateboard down our driveway! The key is to always look forward. When I look back, I wobble and fall.
Me: furiously scribbles sermon notes
@OrthodoxPC This is fantastic! I can't believe I did not know this existed until today! Could you please tell me who the choir is that’s singing? Where I can I learn more about the project?
You would end up with a mouthful of flour instead of fresh-baked bread. You have to do the work of seeing how the Psalmist’s words point to Christ and are fulfilled in Him and His Church. It takes effort, but it is richly rewarding.
The great hymns of the church are like dining at a fine restaurant: everything is prepared for you, beautifully presented, and tastes wonderful. Praise God for them! Singing the Psalms, however, is often like cooking from scratch—cracking eggs, measuring flour, kneading dough.
There's real work to be done before you can sit down and enjoy the meal. Yet there’s something about a meal you’ve labored over that tastes like nothing else. So it is with the Psalms. You often can’t just sit down and sing them without preparation.
Remember that sea shanty “The Wellerman” that was stuck in everyone’s head a few years ago? I am preaching this week on 1 Corinthians 14 and Spiritual gifts in worship and I am valiantly resisting the urge to title the sermon “When the Tonguing is Done.”
