It's easy to tell who doesn't drive battery electric yet. They all think hybrid or erev is necessary for rural or towing. Erev will not be a good electric vehicle or a good gas vehicle. It will be a compromised version. Imagine an Erev pickup truck. If it has a large enough combustion engine generator to be useful for towing, it will lose the utility of a large frunk. If it has a large battery, it will weigh a lot and be very expensive. If it has a small battery it will be a poor electric vehicle. If it has a small generator it will not tow well in mountains. If you run the generator for long trips while towing, it will be less efficient than pure ICE because generator and motor losses will probably be greater than gear transmission losses. Maintenance will be similar to ICE, and complexity will be higher. It will require the full package. Fuel tank and fuel vapor emissions stuff, Cooling system, air intake and filter stuff, oil system and filter, and full emission control system and exhaust and mufflers.
All for what? A little faster travel while towing occasionally?

Or worst case scenario they are too lazy to plug in, and end up with a complicated, heavy vehicle that uses more gas than an ice pickup because the generator is less efficient than a transmission, and they find out it doesn't tow well because the erev powertrain has a small engine and small battery capacity. Dunno

I'm pretty discouraged about it as well. Truly, lower cost batteries and cheaper EVs can't come soon enough. Like how can people not realize that gas isn't an infinite resource? The only reason anyone can afford to burn petroleum for power, is through massive subsidies. Not to mention the effect it has on our air.

@nogulagsagain I once hit that button in an old Kenworth with a full 80,000 lb load just as I was nearing a curve on a high levee road at 60 mph. The headlights went OFF. Hit it again and they came back on. Whew! A moment of panic
