No children or young people under the age of 18 are in prison in Scotland. A historic achievement.
Removal of the last remaining children from Polmont - and the guarantee no Scottish child will be jailed again - is a fitting legacy for William Lindsay.

Our impartial, independent NSPAG Annual Report 2023-24 out today contains advice and recommendations. It reflects the passion and compassion of all working so hard to save lives from suicide in challenging times, our thanks as NSPAG members and our hope for the future.
The recommendations serve to ensure the heart of the Children's Hearings System is inquisitorial and rights-respecting, with the views of children and families right at the centre of decision-making processes. (2/4) @CHScotland @ChildReporter @OHOV_Scotland @DavidMackie15

Our increasing total @scottishprisons population is of huge concern, but looking at this graph of the women's population from July '22 - July '23, can anyone tell me if this looks like the correct time to close services in the community like @turningpointsco 218 project? Anyone?
The openness of @scottishprisons in terms of laying bare the reality of the situation is unusual & to be commended here. It *is* time for them to say ‘no more’. It’s not scaremongering. It’s what we’ve been saying for years. https://t.co/co0Gj1yZaL
Almost one in five people in prison are on remand – awaiting trial or sentence – and the number has been rising fast. At the end of 2023, it stood at more than 16,000 – the highest level for at least half a century.
Don't miss our event next week, where we'll be discussing the issues with remand.
