I really hate that you have to go out of character before people can actually hear you.
But by the time they’re hearing you, you’re already on the extreme of your behaviour and now you’re the problem.
When they could have just listened in the first place.
This might be an unpopular opinion, but if you are in a serious relationship with someone and, throughout the entire period of knowing each other, they never post you anywhere, I think you should ask yourself why. They may not be proud of you, they may be hiding you, they may be keeping other options open, they may have other people they are involved with, or they may simply be playing it safe.
These days, people are unnecessarily calculated about relationships. Everyone is so “woke” that even when they post their partner on WhatsApp, they sometimes limit the post to the very person they are supposedly showing off.
I’m genuinely curious: if you really like someone, they meet your standards, and you have seen how serious the relationship has become, why can’t you post them? Even if it is just on WhatsApp especially on their birthdays or other special occasions. Wouldn’t it be better to make the relationship visible so that if they already have commitments to other people, there is a greater chance of finding out early? Why are you hiding your man or woman?
I believe if Audrey Cyril had been posting Mr. Presh from when they started dating, it might not have taken until their engagement for some of those things to come to light. I’m not saying posting someone automatically prevents deception, but it can make certain things harder to hide.
“I’m never posting the person I’m dating on social media.” Why exactly? What are you hiding? What is the worst that can happen? If you eventually break up, will that stop you from posting someone else months later when you enter another relationship? Unless you already expect to jump from one relationship to another every few months.
If you genuinely like someone and believe the relationship is serious, I don’t understand the obsession with pretending they don’t exist. It is not the maturity you think that it is.
As a husband, your wife deserves intimacy that goes far beyond sex. She deserves dates, genuine compliments, thoughtful surprises, flowers, affection, deep conversations, and the feeling of being pursued even after the wedding.
Marriage shouldn’t make you stop dating your wife. You married a person with feelings, needs, and a heart not a robot. Keep courting her, keep choosing her, and keep making her feel loved.
A woman can calmly explain ten times that something makes her uncomfortable. Then, on the eleventh time, she snaps. And the man will only remember the eleventh time. For some reason, the first ten don’t make it into the male version of the story.
This man stood in front of his congregation & said refusing to have sex with your husband is sexual immorality & is the same thing as rape, sex trafficking and homosexuality; & nobody in that church thought this nigga crazy. #DeathOfAPastorsWife
As a woman, if you haven’t reached a point where you can comfortably provide for yourself or have some level of career stability, marriage shouldn’t be at the top of your priorities.
Not because I believe in 50/50 or that you’ll have to split every bill……
I know a number of people who didn’t marry their “spec” but are in the healthiest marriages I know. Their spec was typically whatever was culturally deemed to be at the apex of the attractiveness pyramid when they were growing up. For a lot of guys in my generation, it was the music video “vixens” from the late 90s/early 2000s Hip & R&B music videos with ‘coke bottle figures’ and or light skinned eurocentric features. When it’s time to find a partner for the very serious endeavor of sharing a life with, that “spec” is simply inadequate as a measure of compatibility and that’s understandable. The foolishness though is communicating it as though their partner somehow didn’t measure up to their “spec” instead of simply admitting that the idea of their spec was stupid all along and a young boy’s lack of wisdom of what makes a good life partner.
Communicating publicly or even privately to your partner that they weren’t your spec to begin with may seem harmless, after-all you’re just being honest. But subconsciously, it’s an ego trip for you who “settled” and for your the partner, it’s a chip they will always carry on their shoulder that to you, they aren’t quite enough. They’re missing something you had always longed for, so much so that you still consider it to be your “spec”. It’s an unnecessary mind fuck and a cruel thing to say about somebody who is sharing a life with you. No matter how flowery you are with the compliments that come after. You’ve already knocked them down several pegs.
If the point is to say your spec changed then talk about the stupidity of having a spec to begin with. Because I’ve never heard anyone in these situations talk about character attributes being their spec, it’s always superficial stuff. Or speak about how meeting your partner opened your eyes to what true beauty is. Speak in ways that elevate and affirm your partner.
Just finished Polygamist and you guys reduced it to being about sex, when it’s so much more layered than that 😩. There are daddy issues that led to Sarah wanting to kiss Magesh, dysfunctional family dynamics through Freedom’s story & him being an alcoholic from being neglected, resentment, poverty, envy through Sarah, Magesh grappling with being treated like an outsider & ice boy by his own brother, Elsie convincing herself she’s the exception despite Jonasi’s history of cheating in high school, and even the stigma around HIV through Jonasi choosing traditional medicine over his ARVs.
There’s far more going on than the surface level conversations of sex people have been having on the TL.
20 happily married women were asked one simple question:
“What makes your husband attractive even after years of marriage?”
Almost, none of them mentioned looks, muscles, money, or fancy romantic gestures.
Here’s what they said actually makes a husband deeply attractive:
bro to bro: if you like skinnier girls, get yourself a skinny girl. if you like thicker girls, get yourself a thick girl. if you like fitness girls, get yourself a fit girl. you are entitled to your own preferences.
but what you are not going to do bro, is date a girl who is not your type and make her feel inferior to other girls.
