TODAY - Please join us for our session on #DigitalBadges at ACTE! See how students "show what they know."
Digital Badges: A Visual Strategy for Tracking Student Accomplishments
Room 207B
December 5 - 1:00 pm
#CareerTechEd#VISIONCTE24
@edtechmathteach Research from decades ago shows several key points in the math curriculum break students' brains:
- fractions / decimals / %
- negative number mult / div
- x as a variable
To oversimplify-these are where the prior rules stop working [eg,the product of 2 fractions is smaller]

@garnet_hillman#sblchat A6) I agree with the impulse to protect teachers' time, so it depends on the situation. I don't know that a blanket rule like this is the best strategy. Would you tell the top singers in the chorus that they didn't need to try to get better?
@garnet_hillman#sblchat A5) Percentages and GPAs are among the most egregious examples of mistaking precision for accuracy. Which tells you more - a "75" in English, or a set of "Meets Expectation" or "Needs more work" marks for each standard (Writing, Response to Lit, Oral Presentations, etc)
@KatieBudrow Ack! I keep forgetting to add #sblchat. A4) Which students are we talking about? Here's another statement: Students won't be as anxious if they know they can reassess.
@garnet_hillman We've been working with schools on digital badges. Some like the approach of demonstrating proficiency on a scale like martial arts -moving up to ultimately become a "black belt" in math or reading. This recognizes the fact that students will move at different paces.
