Rancher, minister, developer, builder, and Baylor! author of "Songs in the Desert" proud to serve on Pastors for Texas Children and Interfaith Alliance boards
Had a great conversation with CBS News about my race for Lieutenant Governor and why it’s time for change in Texas.
As your next Lt Gov, I will set aside the divisive issues and focus on the things that will make a difference in your life: fully funding public schools, housing affordability, expanding healthcare access, and ensuring clean water and reliable power for all Texans.
It’s time for A Goodwin for Texas. Watch the full interview to hear my vision for building a state that works for everyone: https://t.co/yifqDzR5rM
The level of ghoulishness, soullessness, and moral bankruptcy required to not just mock a CHILD…but a child with special needs…for LOVING his dad…is utterly incomprehensible.

I’ve never publicly or in my pulpit endorsed a presidential nominee, in my 40yr tenure, at the church I currently pastor and planted. I still don’t plan to endorse a candidate in my pulpit which actually violates our policy as a church on political endorsements.
Matter of fact Mike Huckabee preached for me the year he ran for president, but there was no mention made of his candidacy. I attended college with Mike, and we pastored different churches when he lived and pastored in my hometown, Pine Bluff, Arkansas. At a North Dallas hotel, I stood besides Jimmy Draper, Robert Morris, Jack Ghrahm & others to publicly endorse Huckabee as a private citizen. Note, we were not in a church or church pulpit.
As a private citizen, and because the stakes are so high, there’s too much at risk for me to be silent in this election. I appreciate the counsel and caution to remain neutral publicly & to withdraw from participating even as a private citizen, from the Evangelicals for Harris movement. I can’t remain silent though.
In addition to being the highest qualified in my judgment, I was raised by a mother who taught me. to never surrender your voice to others out of fear, or being in the minority. My home church taught me, God plus one is a majority, actually The Sovereign God alone is a majority. I was taught the theology, If God is for you, he’s more than the world against you. I was taught, if you know you’re right, you don’t need an army to stand with you.
When Governor Rick Perry worshipped at our church, and also spoke for a teacher appreciation/back to school celebration at my church, not one SBC/evangelical cautioned or counseled me to be silent or neutral, or distance myself. When I stood by George W. Bush to help pass a constitutional ban on same sex marriage in Texas, no SBC/evangelical counseled or encouraged me to distance myself from George W. Bush. I toured Texas speaking to the 8 largest cities in Texas, with Governor Perry at each stop, preaching the message, “Are Gay Rights and Civil Rights, Parallel?”.
I faced backlash and criticism from certain segments of the Black community, but never from the White evangelical community. I even spoke admirably, and appreciatively regarding the candidacy of Sarah Palin. Again, absolutely no evangelical cautions or counsel was given…only a segment of Black rejection, and backlash.
Now, that I see merit and value as a private citizen to reach the conviction and conclusion that Kamala Harris is far better qualified, and consequently be a better president, White evangelicals, and a handful of Blacks are screaming I shouldn’t do this.
My mother raised me to be much stronger than this. Just like I dismissed Black pressure to distance myself from, or not speak approvingly of Huckabee, Perry, Bush, Palin, & Daddy Bush….I’m not going to succumb to the pressure to distance myself from Evangelicals for Harris.
For my mother, who lived in a season where the glass ceiling was impossible to break through, particularly for Black women. And for my God, who may have chosen this election and Kamala Harris to symbolically & representatively receive the recompense & reward for all women of all colors of all political parties, to break the glass ceiling before the whole world, I feel compelled as a citizen(not as a pastor) to publicly support Madam Vice President, Kamala Harris, particularly when I see the alternative as extremely detrimental to the best interests, and goal towards “one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all.”
📚I’m writing a book📚
In the last 25 years, 40 million Americans have walked away from church. Most of these folks are not rejecting Jesus. They are rejecting the use of Jesus’ name for the purpose of domination and oppression. They aren’t even rejecting the Bible. They are rejecting hateful, harmful, exclusionary ways of reading it.
I’m convinced that rejection like this doesn’t make them unchristian—it makes them Christlike. Jesus himself famously chastised religious leaders who weaponized Scripture and elevated it above love of neighbor. He repeatedly denounced those who used the Bible to divide rather than unite, incite violence rather than make peace, and exclude rather than include.
I’m tired of pastors and Christian leaders wielding the Bible like a weapon. We need to do better. That’s why I’m writing this book.
Betsy DeVos’s obsession with opposing student debt relief blinds her to the stye in her own eye on her tuition subsidy scheme for private schools
~70% of voucher users have never been in public school to begin with.
The ads they are running against Drew Darby are brutal! He’s a solid Republican but Abbott the scumbag doesn’t care. Abbitt was in San Angelo last week. A leading Republican told me Abbott has peed in his cereal out here, lost a ton of big time donors!!
Anyone else notice how the pro-voucher crowd in Texas is sounding more and more desperate as the primaries approach?
Brutal attacks on every candidate that didn’t vote for their voucher scam.
Shows us who they really are.
Vouchers have never been about the kids.
It’s all about $.
Greg Abbott, I usually try to have some class but you are a scumbag, plain and simple , a scumbag!
And Drew Darby has more integrity in his little finger than you do in your entire pathetic life.
Over 100 of us were outside supporting Darby when you arrived!!!
Thank you, San Angelo, for the warm West Texas welcome!
