I'm awaiting funding decisions but anticipate recruiting a PhD student for fall 2025
If ur @ #TWS2024, have interests & skills that align w/our lab, & want 2 talk, pls get in touch or stop by the poster session where I'll present on coyote work done w/@RolandKays & #SnapshotUSA
New Paper - @DavidRHeit's 2nd MS chapter is out!
A review + mammal & bird case studies exploring nonlinearity in GLMs
GLMs are "nonlinear" on the natural scale yet entail a linearity assumption, which can be confusing

New paper out in Landscape Ecology:
The spatial scaling and individuality of habitat selection in a widespread ungulate ๐ฆ
We found that selection coefficients varied widely, not only by spatial scale, but also by individual.
https://t.co/OsYvLMEFpf
Of the suite of potential intrinsic and extrinsic factors we tested, study area, home range size, and % of forest cover w/in a home range predicted scale of effect for an individual.
We fit iSSFs to white-tailed deer at 65 spatial scales, and found that >57% of the time coefficients were both positive or negative, depending on the scale.
At #ESA2022? Interested in spatial ecology or modeling or resource selection or ungulates?
Come check out @DavidRHeit's cool work on the spatial scaling of habitat selection today at 4:30pm in room 515A!
[session COS 114 - Modeling 4]
Being inclusive doesn't guarantee we're being welcoming. We need to do more to make our campuses be both. I'm very proud of our Grad student recipients of the Kidder award and of Stonewall Grads for being recognized for their efforts. #thisisunh@UNH_GradSchool
My webinar on Animal Movement Analysis in R is now available on Youtube: https://t.co/RuRSNzDyNe.
Includes:
โข brief introduction to HMMs for animal movement;
โข discussion of some common challenges;
โข example analysis using momentuHMM on elephant data (feat. crawl/foieGras).
Pending final funding, I anticipate recruiting an MS student this fall to model moose populations using camera traps & drones in NH w/me & @UNH_SAD_rs
Looking for stds excited for fieldwork, population modeling, & beautiful mountain scenery
