Lifelong IT/UNIX/Internet infrastructure guy. My experience predates "the web".
But I'm here mostly to yell about politics.
Not a bot, despite the profile pic
CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAW, respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or ABRIDGING THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH, OR OF THE PRESS; or the RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE TO PEACEABLY ASSEMBLE, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
So hopefully now I'm finally stabilized, I can GTFO /very soon/, move into a full-time managed care / rehab facility, and finally start actual treatment.
You know the old saying - "If you're healthy enough to tweet again, you're healthy enough to get your brain irradiated."
I haven't posted in a long time, for numerous reasons, but here's at least one important update.
1. Probably the only selfie I'll ever post.
2. 2x IVs = twice the fun
3. They keep my walker way over /there/ so I can't use it unsupervised.
4. The general situation.
Fun fact - the whole time at these two hospital trips (first to ER, then back to ICU) - the *whole time*, was
just about getting me stable enough *for* treatment.
Apparently I almost died twice, and temporarily lost my whole damn mind for 1-2 days during that time. No memories.
"We need more Boliver keychains!"
"We are out of Boliver keychains in the gift shop! Repeat, we are out out of Boliver keychains!"
"Mommy, buy me a keychain!"
"No! Now come along, Boliver!"
"Are you talking to me?"
"No, my son is also named Boliver."
Bonus: I've never instagrammed food before.
I only remembered to take a picture of the plate *after* I finished breakfast. So, just pretend there was a surprisingly tasty omelette there.
@astro_jje I don't watch the show.
But I would imagine he's doing some Jack Black Stuff.
You know, acting the same way he always does in every show he's in.
Hopefully you can ignore him.
Maybe he'll be gone by the next episode.
I'm listening to a large rotation of videogame soundtracks.
There were people on twitter who I could nerd-gush about them.
There... once were.
They are now gone.
(As many are)
So I'm just like...
Mm.
Just sitting here, by myself, listening to my bullshit.
Reacting.
For nobody.
@mikewmott @Lucas_Jackson_@nytimes@washingtonpost@latimes Did you have a dialup modem built into your computer when your were a kid?
Well, the acoustic coupler is the /grandfather/ of that modem device.
@mikewmott @Lucas_Jackson_@nytimes@washingtonpost@latimes The "word processor" was basically a laptop-like device, but the "screen" was only a couple columns high.
Basically a "smart typewriter".
And this is an acoustic coupler:
It's meant to transmit data /very slowly/ over a public phone handset.
@Lucas_Jackson_@nytimes@washingtonpost@latimes If you wanna look up my dad, google Robert Schenet.
He was very prominent on Knight Ridder and the Seattle Post Intelligencer.
I haven't googled him in over ten years, but I know that he was a prominent "World News editor", and his face was on buses.
He eventually died of cancer.
@Lucas_Jackson_@nytimes@washingtonpost@latimes My 1980s dad sprinting to a phone booth to be the first guy to stick a dime in the telephone and plug the handset into his "laptop's" acoustic coupler?
No different from you all with your smartphones, trying to be "first".
I mean, it /is/ different.
But also kinda not.
