@kleib323@aaron_renn I agree with you on the land usage being terrible, though this is actually looking inside Beltway 8 at Houston proper, Katy would be behind the camera. I'm not a suburb defender, but the idea that Katy is all white bread Applebee's isn't true any more.
@kleib323@aaron_renn Katy, TX has one of the largest Venezuelan populations in the US (and corresponding food) and a full-blown Viet/Chinatown w more Asian small business/restaurants than many whole metro areas .
@BayouBikeyBoi Visiting NYC or Chicago is one thing, but being in Milwaukee or Cincinatti and realizing the urbanism dream best case-scenario for Montrose has been realized there can either be inspiring or dispiriting. In this moment, I despair.
@BayouBikeyBoi True; Whitmire as mayor though is just such a barrier to reversing those political decisions that I have withdrawn to a pessimistic nihilistic view on improving houston (for now).. limiting the damage is important though!
@HTX_Son@HOUrbanist Ok, then it's housing people who are no longer competing with 'average folk' on the already existing housing in more affordable areas. Still a win for everyone.
My thoughts after reading Abundance by @DKThomp and @ezraklein:
This should be the governing template for Democrats for the next 20 years. It's correct, it's necessary, and it has cross-partisan appeal.
Every Dem staffer, politician & activist should work from this playbook.
@ErikN_NJEdition@mattyglesias Here is a recent example! In the heart of the city in one of the most transit-friendly, potentially walkable neighborhoods less than 2 miles from downtown.

Like, even if you hated the project, why on earth would you just stop it like this and potentially throw away millions of dollars? Isn’t Houston heading for broke? Some decisions just don’t make sense, and this seems to be one of several in recent months w/ current leadership.
Heads up #DistC.
We worked with partners at every level to secure millions in federal dollars, the first of this type of grant that opened the door for more projects/$ for #Houston.
We should not be sacrificing drainage, important safety improvements, or federally allocated $.
I’m just so confused
Pros:
No lanes are being removed
Drainage is being upgraded
10ft multi-use path is being added
6ft sidewalk added
More trees will be added than cut down
Midblock per crossing added at W Clay
Cons:
Several trees get cut down
No thru traffic W. Clay
Video is up now! Wild residential architecture, bizarre utility pole placements, incredible food, a fascinating battle brewing between the city and the suburbs, and yeah, diversity. https://t.co/aNEuuGB1GO
Be aware that @EVAAir_US is not the official EVA Air Twitter account. In the pretext of helping passengers, they get their representative to connect to you via WhatsApp. The service rep asks you to register to Wordremit , a service used for money transfers ! 💣
@JasonHGTruitt @JRDNLTHMS 100%! I’d just say similarly to public transit in the US, a lot can be improved upon by imitating global best practices of peer nations. I do think us being “the gun country” is always going to result in slightly worse outcomes on this front though, unfortunately
