@agmuirhead@WhisperingBob You make a good point. I have nothing but admiration and affection for Bob. He’s done so much to introduce people like me to some wonderful music. Thankfully, we had him on live after my piece went out this morning.
@musicmanleeds You make an interesting point. We do have a wonderful pronunciation dept and the official advice is for the anglicised rather than the Dutch pronunciation. The American curator at the National Gallery calls him Van 'Go.'
It would be rather wonderful if this made it to the BBC’s most read list - 11 years after it was first posted. And seasons greetings to all the lovely people on the railway.
@sallyann16 Ha! All of them taught me and all were excellent. Mrs Hunter was brilliant at getting us through English Lit. Ted Harben was a lovely person and the fact that maths seemed pretty straightforward was all down to Mr Fall.
In case anyone saw my report last year on the lovely Gwendolyn being one of the last people to receive a telegram from the Queen - here she is on her 101st birthday rocking it as Cruella de Vil.
