Our Chair of the Board of Trustees, Bryan Carnes MBE, has announced he will be standing down from the role at the end of 2026, marking nearly 25 years of dedicated service to the New Vic Theatre.
Since joining the Board in 2001 and becoming Chair in 2015, Bryan has played a pivotal role guiding the New Vic through significant milestones like the 2020 capital redevelopment of our auditorium.
Under his leadership, the theatre has strengthened its position as a vital cultural institution in Staffordshire, expanding its artistic reach and deepening its engagement with audiences and communities.
We extend a huge thank you to Bryan for his dedication and passion.

#GoodGollyMissMolly is an absolute must-watch music-fuelled play that takes the audience on a nostalgic trip down the resilient 1980s Potteries memory lane.
The rebooted rock musical drama tells the true story inspired by conversations with residents of a local Tunstall residents community fighting to save their homes from demolition against a backdrop of social turmoil issues.
In many ways, this 40th anniversary production epitomises the enduring allure of the New Vic’s signature actor-musician documentary style as the below column sets out.
Catch Miss Molly and the talented cast/band @NewVicTheatre until 2 May if you sure like to ball.
The democratic design of theatre-in-the-round allied to the sense of inclusiveness, belonging and North Staffordshire’s notable friendliness is, according to @TheresaHeskins a key factor in why the @NewVicTheatre has ‘found its home here and suits this audience so much.’
The New Vic isn’t just a venue - it’s where inclusive, accessible theatrical excellence happens.
In continuing to honour Peter Cheeseman’s legacy, the 40-year-old creative hothouse stands as a testament to the power of theatre to transform and enhance local communities and put the Potteries on the world theatre map.
Witnessed the most amazing thing on the train to Edinburgh yesterday. A guy boarded in Wigan & sat opposite me. He went to sleep for an hour.
When he woke up he bought a sandwich, ate it & went back to sleep. (This isn’t a maths test, you don’t need to know the distance/speed).
@NewVicTheatre is one of only a small number of purpose-built theatres-in-the-round globally. It was part of the building’s ethos that theatre was made there by “local people, for local people, but also representing local voices and local people on the national and the international stage.”

‘I have not a political reason but a highly personal reason [for speaking out]. I do not want to see my school bully become prime minister’
