@Nikk_Roberts@mario4thenorth Judges should have a legal say because they are qualified to have legal say. Everyone not qualified to have a legal say can still say their opinion as much as they want, though.
@Nikk_Roberts@mario4thenorth The judges were selected by an independent committee of people qualified to assess the merit and qualifications of judges. Judges in Alberta are even selected by Albertans and Alberta's Minister of Justice picks a member of the committee.
@SunnyandCoco@mario4thenorth Judges are selected by independent committees of people qualified to assess the merit and qualifications of judges. Most voters are not so qualified. I don't want the general public electing judges any more than I want the general public electing dentists or surgeons.
@stephens_t8238@mario4thenorth There are no politically appointed judges in Canada and there is no need for automatic by-elections for aisle-crossers because Canadians vote for representatives, not parties.
@lac37j@lovelylibrary@RajSherman@Alberta_UCP As the ministers were elected to represent the people it's also important for those people to know whether their interests are actually being represented. If not for threads like this, Albertans might not know that their elected representatives are ignoring a health care crisis.
@lac37j@lovelylibrary@RajSherman@Alberta_UCP You can see who the doctor tagged in his post which includes people who can, in fact, make changes to the system in general and approve the request made by the Alberta Medical Association Section of Emergency Medicine.
Thread 3/3: 48+ HOURS…
OPERATIONAL SOLUTIONS: The state of emergency would entail:
1. An acknowledgement that the system is in crisis
2. Centralized incident command - One authority directing hospitals, EMS, LTC, home care, and community services
3. Rapid reallocation of resources - Move staff, beds, and equipment where needed most
4. Override normal rules and delay - Bypass funding silos (acute vs LTC vs community) and remove administrative barriers to moving patients
5. Rapid ALC decant - Move ALC patients out of hospitals within 24–48 hours. Use HOSPITAL-at-HOME/Home care, transitional care, rehab care, assisted living, LTC and hotels with nursing
6. 7-day, after-hours discharge authority - Discharge patients when they are medically ready, not just during office hours
7. Restore emergency department function - Get admitted patients out of ERs and into inpatient beds and protect stretchers for new emergencies
8. Mandatory real-time data reporting - Honest numbers on: ALC patients, Bed availability, ER boarding times, EMS offload delays
9. Protect vulnerable patients - Move frail seniors out of acute medical wards to specialized ALC rehab wards to reduce delirium, falls, infections, and deaths
10. Enable emergency care models - Hospital-at-Home, Transitional care units, Mobile nursing teams, Temporary care sites
11. Legal authority to act immediately - Decisions in hours to days, not weeks to months
A state of emergency gives government the legal power to move patients, free beds, override barriers, and stop preventable harm immediately.
These are the practical solutions we need to implement ASAP to save lives, reduce harm to Albertans and mitigate legal and financial risk to taxpayers.

@connie_szn@daleethompson Food retail profits more than doubled from pre-pandemic to Q3 2023. Food prices for consumers increased 5.6% in the year leading up to Oct 2023, compared to the 3.1% general inflation over the same time. Their profit margins have increased. That's why things are more expensive.
@connie_szn@daleethompson When people have no choice but to buy a thing, that lack of a choice doesn't change when the price goes up. Unregulated grocery prices can generate as much profit as CEOs want them to as people have no choice but to buy them. That is the "corporate greed" that you dismissed.
@SCampbe04529582@PauloEastvan@govt_corrupt The EU is governed by the European Parliament which is elected by citizens of the EU. Each nation's elected government is also represented on the Council of the European Union.
@awarnica@PauloEastvan@govt_corrupt There are 27 member states of the EU. There are 20 participating members of the Euro. These things are not equivalent and joining one does not mean joining the other.
@LammersFairy@chris_1982alta@NicD903@wealthmoose I'm not sure if you use Einstein as a term of endearment but it tends to come across a little sarcastic and insulting in many cases. Please note that you are replying to my two tweets that provided evidence of your claim that was disputed by Chris, who has not replied since.
@MarekLeh@MattGrierMusic@RealRobinToupin According to the Bible, Jesus quite specifically told people to pay their taxes. Jesus also told people to give food, drink, clothing, and shelter to the least among us. Seems like the sort of support that would be best provided by the taxes He told people to pay.
