In September, the Foreign Secretary told Parliament that the Government would ban the advertising of illegal settlements in the UK, declaring that the promotion of settlement land at a London property event must never happen again. Yet, there are reports that organisations linked to illegal Israeli settlement expansion and the displacement of Palestinians are due to exhibit at World Travel Market London over the course of this week.

We write to challenge the Government’s failure to intervene in accordance with the promises they themselves have made.

As of today (Monday 19 October), the Canary will be closed indefinitely.

After multiple attacks this year, from Lloyds debanking us to former employees spreading malicious lies on social media, the situation has become unsustainable, both financially and operationally.

After 11 years, we take this action with deep sadness and regret. The extent of the lies, defamation, and harassment by ex-staff - coupled with the constant attacks by the state and those who’d see us destroyed - has become too much.

However, it is not over. This week, we will publish what really happened at the Canary and push back against the vicious campaign against our team and us.

We may be down, but we’re not out yet.

Mothin Ali – apology and Correction

On 18 July 2024, I published a post on my X account in which I stated that Mr Mothin Ali, an elected official and Deputy Leader of the Green Party, was involved in the Harehills riots of July 2024 in which people attacked the police.

That statement was incorrect. In fact, Mr Ali was asked by the police to use his position of trust in the community to help bring about peace on the streets. Mr Ali attended the scene for that purpose alone. He was not involved in the disorder or violence in any way, and on the contrary he was one of the principal reasons of bringing an end to the disorder. I offer my sincere apologies to Mr Ali for my post, the harm I caused, and I have agreed to pay him compensation to vindicate his reputation.

En EEUU, un racista contrató a unos trabajadores latinos para que le cercaran su patio con costosas vallas de madera... pero cuando terminaron el trabajo, llamó a ICE para que les deportaran y ahorrarse pagarles.

Sin embargo, no salió como el racista esperaba, los trabajadores eran legales, volvieron a su casa y le arrancaron valla por valla de madera en su cara, deshaciendo el trabajo. Puro karma.
