Thankyou to @LondonFire Bexley, @kentfirerescue USAR and Faversham for support in a animal rescue I attended this morning in East Sussex. A group of true specialists with a successful rescue. Also a mention for colleagues in Surrey Joint fire control for your remote support.
This fantastic video we worked on with @LBRUT shows you what to do if you see someone in trouble in the water.
We’ll be showing people how to use throwlines to save lives at our pop-up event tomorrow at #Teddington Lock. Come along between 12pm -4pm https://t.co/4EJOT7pOA0

Today we are focusing on part one of the water safety code: STOP AND THINK.
Look around when you are near water as there might be lots of hidden dangers that you or your children can't immediately see & ensure your family can #EnjoyWaterSafely
Cold water shock happens when someone is immersed in cold water, about 15° & less.
Blood vessels close, increasing blood pressure & making your heart work harder which can lead to a heart attack. It causes a gasp for breath, increasing the chance of inhaling water. #BeWaterAware

As the temperatures rise it can be tempting to cool off 🥵 Top tips if you plan to go for a paddle. 💦Look out for lifeguards 🥶It's colder than it looks 🏊♂️Don't go too far 🏄♂️currents can be stronger than they look #BeWaterAware#RespectTheWater@EastSussexFRS@RNLI@RLSSUK

Do you love to spend time around water?
Make sure you know what to do if you or someone else falls in.
40% of people who accidentally drowned in 2021 did not expect to enter the water.

If you spot someone in trouble in water, would you know who to call?
💦 If it’s inland, such as rivers or lakes, call 999 and ask for the fire service.
🌊 If it’s by the sea, call 999 and ask for the coastguard.

Even if your child can swim, you must actively supervise them in and around water.
Half of the children who drown have some swimming ability.
