New: Washington Gas wants to win $2M from a key renewable energy fund, a legally questionable move that has outraged environmentalists and D.C. officials alike.
"They just want to suck up the money" meant for low-income retrofit programs, @SierraDC argues

@mattyglesias Agreed! The DC Chapter of the Sierra Club just put out a petition today about this, because their is a bill coming out this month that will help bring more EV chargers online in the District. -->

.@washingtongas is a bad neighbor. This for-profit gas company is:
❌Fueling the climate crisis
❌Raising our bills
❌Polluting our air

Chapter members are out in force this morning to make sure #Ward6 neighbors Decline to Sign, alongside @charlesallen. Get in touch if you want to help make sure he stays in office and keep fighting for our climate priorities.
🧵 When DCist was shut down, we watched as so many of you mourned the loss of a vital local news source. A team of us got to thinking: What if we could create an outlet controlled by us (the journalists) and you (our community)? No executives involved.
A slightly damp but enthusiastic crowd joined our amazing guide Russ from SCPRO for a 5-mi hike from Ft Reno to Ft Stevens today, to learn about the only civil war battle that happened inside DC and to get outdoors! Check out more summer activities at https://t.co/e0QxtpnYt7
Councilmember @CMCharlesAllen's EV charging bill just passed out of committee! The bill lays the groundwork for DC's transition to a zero-emission vehicle future.⚡️🚙
Thank you @CMCHenderson & @CMZParker5 for voting aye. We urge the full Council to pass this bill without delay.
Mayor Bowser’s budget proposes a complicated gimmick that will destabilize DC’s solar market, take thousands of dollars from DC residents, faith institutions and businesses, and set up a circular scheme that pays DC’s own gas and utility bills.

Good video explainer about the budget hijinks that would likely crash DC’s strong solar energy market. If you’re a District resident who has solar panels or are considering them, take a look.
Councilmember @CMBrookePinto's Secure DC bill says a lot about whose lives (and $$$) the city values most.
A person faces 10 years for stealing $500 and 3 years for a fourth offense of child sexual abuse.
A person faces more time for taking car keys than for taking a life.
The Secure DC debate has attracted the attention of @deray, the activist and early supporter of the BLM movement.
His group @CampaignZero will be organizing against the bill this weekend, and he tells me it's "literally one of the worst bills I've ever seen about policing."
There's something fishy with this ostensibly District-wide Gun Violence Grant.
It's $150,000 but it's ONLY open to an organization "incorporated in 2020" "by a graduate of a high school in Ward 7".
So which political ally is this grant being steered to?

Four years ago we built a movement. I’m determined to follow through on the work we started.
Today I am proud to announce my campaign for re-election as Ward 4 councilmember. We’ve accomplished an enormous amount and have more left to do. I’m committed to doing that together.
Homicide and ADW Gun trends in DC:
Cure The Streets areas: Down 17% YTD
ONSE Priority Areas: Down 2% YTD
Areas without these prevention programs: Up 25% YTD
It doesn't prove these programs are working but it suggests they aren't the problem.
