I love seeing Mya outside getting her flowers. These last few years have been beautiful to witness as a long time fan and supporter. She has stormed the BET Awards and The Boy Is Mine Tour - both with 11th hour notice.

She released ‘Retrospect’ with a new partnership via Virgin. It’s honestly her best work to date. AND, she just bodied a tribute to Aaliyah @ Essence Fest.

Keep in mind, Mya has been indie for the last almost two decades. The moves she makes are her own and not machine made.

So when you see her, you see HER. Not a team or a collective.

To be fair, I think “get me bodied” is the precursor to “Single Ladies”. The same way “Irreplaceable” gave birth to “ If I Were A Boy”. I also think that’s why she got rid of Matthew, created 4, and went on to release several critically acclaimed albums.

The way Beyoncé almost didn't want to release Single Ladies until her dad asked her to. She wanted to shelve it because she thought it sounded like something she's done before. We would have been starved of this masterpiece if Matthew Knowles hadn't intervened. 😭😭
