In response to the tragic injury of a young person in a collision allegedly caused by a person on electronic monitoring, some are calling for more stringent GPS surveillance conditions and an increase in pretrial detention.
What an embarrassment. For years we've been saying the solution to the violence & hegemony of policing is not more Black faces on the force. Like the SLPOA, ESOP is out to preserve itself, not serve anyone else, and it's happy to stand with MAGA Republicans in Jeff City to do it.
Large call for non-police first responder program that can be dispatched instead of officers to many 911 calls. Forward Through Ferguson @StlChange has been engaging community, researching how to launch locally, talking to national models, completed 10 community info sessions.
In case you missed our second community town hall on #Transforming911. The visioning for a system that prioritizes care over force, sharing of sad and difficult experiences and desire for safety, the sense of connection—so powerful. https://t.co/c1gmU37WP1
At times, only two 911 dispatchers serving St Louis City. Residents put on hold for 10-20 minutes and police showing up sometimes hours later, often misaligned to the needs of residents. Majority of 911 calls: services, mental or medical health—not violent crime. #Transforming911
St. Louis is going UP in the chat for these three powerful leaders in conversation with one another. I'm smiling ear-to-ear. What a joy. @iKaylaReed@BlakeStrode1 & Dr. Angela Davis!
@MarkReardonKFTK If you were actually interested in reducing violence and not just posturing on the internet, you’d be hearing community leaders from @DefundSLMPD talking about investing in community to address root causes of crime. Register for the conference and join the conversation and action
Mayor @tishaura Jones giving the welcome for day 2 of the 2021 STL Racial Equity Summit! “I’m committed to supporting the recommendations that come from this collaborative event.” Much love for her sounding off in the chat.
Day 1 of the STL Racial Equity Summit with 1000+ attendees! I'm most excited about the 20+ local panels and presentations by dozens of St. Louis leaders who will get some shine for their impactful work while building our collective movements for racial equity and justice.
Had to, had to, had to shout out the people’s congresswoman @CoriBush for her activism, leadership, and recent win to prevent the evictions of our community members in STL and across the nation!
Based on the desperate attacks from Police Union & Friends, @iKaylaReed and @ActionSTL are clearly doing a helluva job. Time to put some more $ in the coffers. I don't know if my money is dark... but I am, so maybe that counts. #ImWithAction

I started in @ActionSTL in 2016. It was the moment that changed my life. @iKaylaReed and @AfroRising groomed me as a organizer, developed my analysis, and invested into the leadership of so many in our region. All with the intention for Black people to get free.
Excited to share that "Still Separate, Still Unequal," the video Story First produced w/the team at @StlChange, was recognized in the 42nd Annual @tellyawards as a Gold Telly Winner in the Non-Broadcast: Social Issues category.

“The threat of a return to state control conjures ugly memories, Dwight said, noting that the city originally lost control of the dept when Missouri’s segregationist governor implemented the policy during the Civil War to keep the Unionist city from controlling its own arsenal.”
GOP state legislators threaten to put @SLMPD back under state control bc they don't like plans in KC& STL.
“They’re literally using the tools of white supremacy in reaction to self determination of one of the most diverse cities in the state"—@David_Dee4 https://t.co/LfRovRjKJO
Many people will turn George Floyd into a martyr today. We must fight to remember that he did not *give* his life for justice, for our movement, for an uprising. He wanted to live. He fought to live.
