85% of women killed in Ireland so far this year, in cases where a suspect has been identified, were murdered by non-Irish nationals or foreign-born individuals (including recent migrants and asylum seekers), according to analyses of Women’s Aid Femicide Watch data and public records.

Eight women have been killed in violent circumstances in 2026, already more than the total for all of 2025. Suspects have been publicly identified in seven cases, with six being foreign-born.

In most instances, the victim knew her alleged killer, often a current or former partner or family member.
