@chtoder Great minds think alike!
To your point about that player being hard to find… correct. At our level you aren’t going to get everything, I’ll take the shooting first and foremost and figure the rest out.
The lane is open because all 5 guys can shoot the rock. We can’t play 5-out.
Ian’s shot development and/or bringing in someone who can space from the 5 is the #1 offseason key for Davidson.
You see how pressed up the SMU defenders are? They’re face guarding up to the logo (granted it’s a huge logo). It opens the door WIDE open for a beautiful backdoor cut. This is the stuff we were running to perfection like 4 years ago.
Best half of the year for Davidson considering the opponent.
Credit where credit’s due: Matt McKillop had his guys locked in and ready to go tonight…
Can the Cats stay on this heater for another 20:00???
Five schools have been attended by a U.S. President and an NBA MVP:
Davidson: Woodrow Wilson and Steph Curry
Navy: The Admiral and Jimmy Carter
Cincinnati: Taft (Law School) and Oscar Robertson
UNC: James K. Polk and Bob McAdoo/MJ
Georgetown: Bill Clinton, LBJ and AI
Five schools have produced a U.S. president and a Super Bowl-winning QB.
- Delaware: Biden/Flacco
- Miami (OH): Harrison/Big Ben
- Michigan: Ford/Brady
- Stanford: Hoover/Elway/Plunkett
- Navy: Carter/Staubach
If Drake Maye wins this year, UNC will be the sixth (James K. Polk).
Davidson’s adjusted offensive rating on Saturday (81.3) is the worst single-game adj O rating the program has had in over 15 years.
An 80-52 loss @ Vanderbilt on 1/2/2011 takes the cake (74.2 adj O rating). That Vandy team ended up as a 5 seed…
Updated the record by Quad and Close Games chart… not great!
Cats are converting just 19% of their close conference games into wins while continuing to be Quad 4 merchants
Lots of Matt McKillop chatter on the TL tonight (understandably). This is one of my favorite program statistical views (via Torvik)
You can see the areas of historical strength abruptly stop in 2023, with the areas of historical weakness mostly continue.
What is this team’s identity supposed to be? In a best-case scenario?
Nothing about this system or roster(s, going back a few years) gives the impression there’s a plan to be good enough in certain areas to be a top 100 team…
We spent the entire offseason saying how the talent and roster was the problem. We then spent a shitload of $$$, built a solid roster, and completely changed the team’s identity and it’s the SAME EXACT OUTCOME. This isn’t working and it’s exhausting.
