@SeanDreyer Look at the number for those who DIDN’T match. 32 for NSGY, 26 for plastics, 18 for ortho… makes you wonder. Unfortunately research numbers seems to have become a checkbox as a baseline to apply and not truly an indicator of successful physician
@RugbyMD One of my stock replies to patients who ask about this type of situation is that there’s a reason these folks only take cash. I’m blown away that they can convince patients to pay $15-30k….
@DrMarecek Statistically significant but as a whole not a huge increase risk at 1 year. (3.00% vs 3.95%). Many patients may take that marginally increased risk to alleviate their preop symptoms in one procedure rather than waiting 3 additional months.
@rkh_md@generalorthomd Had the same this week. 2 days postop from a THA…clearly cracked the femur intraop. Called them and the response was “I’m going on vacation in two days, I can’t take care of it”
"Hip replacement patients thought their doctor should be paid $14,358 for a total hip replacement
and estimated that Medicare was paying out $8,212 for the procedure.
The actual amount that Medicare paid out? A paltry $1,375"

On a recorded call, a @UHC nurse and an insurance broker laugh while discussing a patient whose claim had just been rejected.
They agree that any appeal would be a waste of the family’s time and money:
“We’re still gonna say no.”
