The drug war isn’t drug prevention
The drug war isn’t harm reduction
The drug war is interdiction
The drug war is about fear
The drug war is racist
The drug war is killing kids
The drug war is destroying lives
The drug war is discrimination
The drug war is the worst case scenario
In The Weight of Air, @Davidthekick tells the true story of his double life fueled by depression and #addiction. David shines a bright light on the #recovery programs that failed him—and on the treatment that helped him thrive.

@clngoutdacloset The difference between heroin & alcohol is: one is much deadlier, can shut down every organ (all other substances combined, can’t) and is so addictive it can kill you in withdrawal. The other is heroin.

Don’t want OD prevention centers?
Legalize & regulate drugs.
Overdose is easy to prevent when potency & purity is known.
How many lives would be saved if a heroin shot was measurable as a tequila shot?
@DanielGarrettHR @hazldnbettyford Days, not weeks. I felt it at the start of day 2 but it could have been psychosomatic as I was terrified of withdrawal and had no idea of when or if I’d get more Bupe
Psych ward switched ALL my meds; withheld Bupe for days & cut dose; added Effexor (making me feel crazy); released me to @hazldnbettyford prog bc of my history but this is about depression, not drugs (like that book—the something of air?)
I was/am ravenous to be loved up at home
I’m out of the (psychiatric) hospital and all fired up to write/talk about my 3 weeks in the absolute nadir of acute inpatient care and stigmatizing double standards.
Thank you for your patience, support & love!
@ProjectAlbertus My eyes are wide the fuck open to the same kind of major, objective problems I found in drug treatment so, yeah—let’s make some noise!
The psych ward was devoid of normalcy. I didn’t see my kids, wasn’t allowed outside; had no privacy or freedom; no music, friends, phone, internet/email; couldn’t decide when or what to eat, sleep; not a cup of water without permission.
That’s not helpful. It’s traumatizing.
@granola_lesbian Shit. So sorry to hear that. I’m noticing some serious problems w outpatient care programs; thought I’d enroll in one but am now leaning heavily toward more personalized care with trusted psychiatrists. Are you ok now?
@sarah_ziggy Thanks. I’m so happy to hear (read) all of that. Please share my email address with anyone who wants to contact me (if possible, pls ask them to put something in the subject line about you or the program so it’s more visible).
"David tells us how alcohol is not legal because it’s safer, it’s safer because it’s legal and regulated.
"We debate the old belief systems versus the new scientific evidence."
