You run a business and the Nigerian government is your biggest buyer, nah receivables go kill you 😭😭😭.
You go dey see receivables for your balance sheet, buy cashflow go dry like anything.
You fit run gig of 500m make them no pay you for 2 years.
Nothing wey i hate reach government work.
If you are a fresh graduate, I highly recommend getting a 9-5 job.
The obvious reasons are that you need the money and network and technical know-how.
But another less-talked-about reason is that it’s good for you to actually experience how an organization works.
You learn hierarchy of command, decorum, standard operating procedures, how to investigate failures, how to react to a dynamic environment, how to communicate, how to reward/punish, and so on.
For better or worse, 95% of the way I approach business is copied from Shell.
I simply don’t know how else to run a company. So I do what I’ve seen work for 12 years.
Of course, my business is different from Shell’s so I adjust as needed but the principle and the philosophy carry through.
Some people got born into a family with a long rich history of business/entrepreneurship and maybe even went straight to get an MBA. These folks may start a business fresh out of school and reasonably be expected to succeed.
But if you are like most of us, then I recommend working for someone else for a while.
I earned $120K a year working for Shell in 2012.
Ten years and multiple promotions later, in 2022, that figure has doubled to $240K a year.
In 2023, I stumbled on an internal, confidential, document that showed the salaries of my superiors.
I saw that even if I were promoted multiple times again, the best I could hope for in another 10 years was another doubling to around $480K a year.
This may sound crazy saying it out loud but that wasn’t cutting it for me.
I simply didn’t want the next 10 years to be a repeat of the last 10.
I wanted geometric progression, not an arithmetic one.
On my 40th birthday, in 2023, I was asked to make a wish as a blew the candles on my birthday cake.
“Get the hell out of Shell,” I quietly whispered. Months later, I was out.
In 2024, my businesses grossed $500K; in 2025, they did $1M - geometric progression.
It required me to be delusional about my abilities, to bank on the faithfulness of God and to trust that inner voice that always nag at me that I could be more, I could do more and I could have more.
🚨🦅 Raphael Onyedika to Eintracht Frankfurt, here we go! Agreement done for Nigerian midfielder to join Eintracht.
€10m fee to Club Brugge, Onyedika prefers Eintracht despite bids also from Saudi. 🇳🇬
Two minutes into this 30-min interview and this lady is already a yes for me.
Bright lighting. Strong network. Clear and quiet background. Look at how she is well-centered in the middle of the frame.
Then, she spoke in clear, concise manner.
This, along, with an already strong profile and the answer is obvious.
