I got Klaus Janson to look at some of my pages once, and as he was going through just tearing me apart for my storytelling choices, he stopped on this page, considered it, and said, "This one is good." He then carried on through the rest, explaining why they were all terrible.
@JPT_Arts@KTF2004 Agreed. This reads as really human to me. I've got a kid and I've had similar thoughts run through my head on days when I see a meltdown coming. I'm also a fan of comics that attempt to resolve standard superhero conflicts through non-standard means (like not beating them up).
@kibblesmith ASTRO CITY did this in a way, with single issue stories that hinted at and referred to comics that hadn't ever been published. It took me a while to pick up that they were trying to simulate the feeling of picking up random, sporadic issues as a kid and inferring the big picture.
@MichelFiffe It's interesting how these model sheets are totally Garcia-Lopez, but there's also elements of Chaykin in there too. I wonder how much of that was conscious.
@PatrickZircher You're right. Facts are slow and feel like work, lies are fast and exciting. And like with the Olena Zelenska story, the seed has been planted. It may not be true, but the people who went for it like it because it *feels* true. It's hard to battle that.
@kibblesmith I wonder what other arenas this kind of framing would work for? "Neil Armstrong, creator of NASA, who flew himself to the moon..." "Winston Churchill, who won WWII..." "George Washington, inventor of America..."
@BOB_Sucre I was in the same situation just two days ago. If you haven't cancelled yet, a tip I found that worked for me was to go in and change the type of subscription. It should give you a two week "trial" with the new settings, during which you can cancel for free.
@clhubes At 40, I had a nurse tell me, "You're not old. You're not a kid anymore, but you're not old." It took about six or seven years before I got what she meant. Must be the human condition.
@GailSimone I was exactly the same way about Buscema as a kid. I remember seeing that he was the artist on the Wolverine ongoing series and thinking, "Aw, this guy?"
I don't understand it when I look at those issues now. He was putting on a clinic with every panel.
@Noahpinion Chungking Express is the one I'm more likely to show people to sell them on Wong Kar Wai, but I see In the Mood for Love as the more confident, mature piece of work. It's transcendent.
