On Christmas Eve, December 24, 1898, while celebrating Mass, Saint Charbel suffered a stroke and died at the age of 70. What happened afterward was remarkable.

For several weeks, a radiant, unexplained light glowed around his tomb every night—even through heavy rain. Villagers from the surrounding areas gathered to witness this mysterious phenomenon.

When the tomb was opened in 1899, his body was discovered perfectly intact, soft and flexible, as though he had only just passed away. A sweet fragrance filled the air, and a mysterious oily liquid continued to flow from his remains for years. Medical experts could offer no natural explanation.
Since that time, Saint Charbel has been associated with thousands of miracles and healings, including recoveries from cancer, paralysis, blindness, and other life-threatening conditions. Pilgrims of every faith—including many Muslims—still journey to his shrine in Annaya, where graces continue to be experienced.

Saint Charbel shows us that the brightest light does not come from worldly achievement, but from a heart completely given over to God. He once said: “A soul that lives in God is like a candle that burns without being consumed.”
More than 125 years after his death, his example continues to shine—calling us to silence, prayer, and deeper union with the Lord amid the noise of our modern world.

Why do churches keep getting hit while mosques rarely face the same?

Since May 2020: over 500 documented attacks on Catholic churches alone in the U.S. (vandalism, arson, desecration).

Family Research Council recorded 1,384 acts of hostility against U.S. churches from 2018–2024 with a sharp rise after 2020.

In Canada: at least 33 churches burned to the ground since May 2021 (24 confirmed arsons), plus dozens more vandalized.

Meanwhile in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, churches are routinely attacked, burned, and destroyed often with little media attention.

Double standards are real. Silence is complicity.

During the Second World War, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church became a crucial institutional defender of the nation's Jewish population, defying Nazi directives for deportation. Led by Metropolitan Stefan of Sofia and Metropolitan Kiril of Plovdiv, the Church utilized moral authority, direct action, and public mobilization to protect approximately 48,000 Jews within Bulgaria's pre-war borders. This defiance, supported by a united public, successfully forced the government to halt deportations and save thousands of lives.

While the Bulgarian government complied with Nazi demands to deport over 11,000 Jews from newly annexed territories in Thrace and Macedonia, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church became the fiercest institutional defender of the ~48,000 Jews living within Bulgaria's pre-war borders.

Metropolitan Kirill denounced racial laws, threatened a hunger strike, hid the Chief Rabbi, blocked deportation trains, protested to the Tsar and offered mass conversions.

Metropolitan Stefan of Sofia: As the highest-ranking prelate, he openly condemned the nation's anti-Semitic laws. He sent angry letters to Tsar Boris, hid the Chief Rabbi of Sofia in his own home, and gave sermons stating that God would punish Bulgaria if its Jewish citizens were harmed.

Metropolitan Kiril of Plovdiv: On March 10, 1943, when the deportation of Plovdiv's Jews was imminent, he breached a guarded schoolyard where Jews were being rounded up. He threatened to lie down across the railroad tracks to stop the deportation trains and sent a telegram to the Tsar stating his conscience would no longer allow him to remain loyal.
