“….the links between a cared-for and valued workforce and patient safety are clear. In a pressured NHS, it’s often goodwill and staff going above and beyond that makes the difference between good care and a poor experience…”

A small child presented to a specialist outpatient clinic suffering from ringworm infestation, iron-deficiency anaemia and severe dental decay that required 10 of her teeth to be extracted. Her diagnosis? Homelessness. Now more than 4,000 homeless children

Urologists have been asking me how to prescribe HRT which is great they are asking but a shame they have never been taught - this guide can be used by all healthcare professionals and also anyone can access them - https://t.co/WA4k16PGyA @BAUSurology

It was a privilege to give evidence @covidinquiryuk this am. Children suffered disproportionately during the pandemic - often overlooked by decision makers. The impact will be felt by some for decades. Govt must learn from these mistakes & put children first in future emergencies
There is an evolutionary purpose why at least 1 in 5 of us ‘Think Differently’ ☂️
1 in 20 ADHD
1 in 10 Dyslexic
1 in 67 Autistic
1 in 10 Dyscalculia
1 in 20 Dyspraxia
Not disordered; just different.

You only have to look at the current state of our health service, to realise that modern medicine, so good at treating acute illness but without as much attention on prevention and long-term illness, is failing our patients.
There is an inextricable rise in demand for medical care which is unsustainable. Unless things change, this situation will only get worse. And more and more patients will suffer.
As an A&E Dr, in many ways, I provide a sticky plaster to societal problems. We need to move our mindset from treatment to prevention of illness.
Only lifestyle changes can truly reduce demand and in the medium to long term preserve a healthy service for all and not just those lucky enough to afford private care.
Doing regular exercise is the single most important thing that anyone can do for their health and thus reduce demand on health care systems.
Two new studies have shown that even small amounts of exercise both for adults and kids can make a massive difference to both physical and mental wellbeing. In this week’s mail health article, these scientific papers are reviewed and the importance of exercise examined.
In summary, get out there, walk or jog; even small amounts are so good for you - you don’t have to do a 10K or a marathon. But if you want that as a goal, as the medical director of the @BrightonMarathn I can thoroughly recommend our races!
Please sign. The education sector have such a massive influence on a young persons life. Many young people are being failed because schools don’t understand autism, so take a punitive rather than inclusive approach which can be very damaging. This training is essential.
Well done Liz on your Making a Difference award 🥳 You’ve made huge improvements to the service we deliver, and have been an amazing support, teacher & leader to new practitioners. You’re an inspiration to your colleagues & have renewed their enthusiasm 🤩 #teamHDFT@JordanMckie
Prolonged school closures for #COVID19 have been catastrophic for child health
They have deepened inequalities, possibly for generations
“In-person schooling is essential even during periods of high transmission of COVID-19”

‘Daffodowndilly’
She wore her yellow sun-bonnet,
She wore her greenest gown;
She turned to the south wind
And curtsied up and down.
She turned to the sunlight
And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbour
“Winter is dead.”

I will be rejecting @theRCN vote on the 5% pay “increase”. There was blood, sweat and a lot of tears to become a nurse. Started my degree March 2020, I owe this much in student debt. I do not see how this will attract new student nurses.
Exciting opportunity to join our ED team in Harrogate. We are currently looking for an ACP to work with us in our (almost) newly refurbished department 😀. Any questions just get in touch. https://t.co/Ec4pp9fBL8
6 months after speaking here my daughter Phoebe took her life in the same room at Newcastle Uni.
I am screaming.
We must save the lives of our students
THERE IS NO LEGAL DUTY OF CARE AT OUR UNI’S. IT IS MAD.

Great Mandela quote at the end, says it all for me…
At the launch of The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund in May 1995, Nelson Mandela started his speech by saying, ‘There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children.’
Spot on from @SpectatorOz on the 'lost generation':
"Schools weren’t...closed to benefit children, but to satisfy parents, politicians, media, and unions"
"On top of school closures, children & young people were also abused both physically and mentally"
