Families are taking shelter in storm drains and drainage culverts that often carry mixed wastewater, huddling below the concrete as gunfire sounds in the distance. When I see scenes like this, it makes my blood boil. I’m sure people in Thailand are doing the same thing right now. It shouldn’t come to this, yet it does.

Displaced civilians have traveled to a safe location in Chroy Neang Nuon Village, Chroy Neang Nuon Commune, Srei Snam District, Siem Reap Province, after Thai forces launched brutal attacks along the border areas in Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Preah Vihear, and Oddar Meanchey provinces from December 7 to 8, 2025. As of 6 p.m. on December 8, Thai troops continued their attacks against Cambodia using various types of firearms.

Thailand has seriously violated the ceasefire agreement by deploying F-16 fighter aircraft to conduct unauthorized airstrikes inside Cambodia’s sovereign territory. According to initial reports, the aircraft dropped multiple bombs in the affected border area, causing significant damage and leaving numerous Cambodian civilians injured. This deliberate breach of peace has created fear and disruption among local communities, forcing families to flee their homes and undermining the sense of security that citizens rightfully deserve.

The Thai military has continued to launch attacks on Cambodian territory, including the alleged use of poisonous smoke. Shelling and airstrikes by Thai forces had caused the deaths of at least seven Cambodian civilians and injured 20 others as of 6am this morning, December 9, according to a preliminary statement from the Ministry of National Defence.
