The dreamy fog effect in the iconic “Is this heaven?” scene was completely unplanned. Nobody created it on set or in post production. It just appeared while they were filming and they decided to go with it.

@TheCinesthetic Completely true. A close friend, Mark Martens, was a lighting tech for the film. He swore to it. He said the fog was an amazing gift and that time of year and the cool of the evening caused it. He grew up on a farm near Prole, Iowa. Mark is gone now… He is still missed.
