Privacy in physical space is rapidly decreasing. Better privacy online is one of the few tools we have to restore a little bit of balance.
Privacy is normal. Support privacy.
This is bad.
Crypto is not just about trading tokens, it's part of a broader ethos of protecting freedom and privacy and keeping power in the hands of the little guy.
And these values unfortunately continue to be under attack, globally.
Unpopular but true: Bitcoin is the most significant monetary advance since the creation of coinage.
If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

This week the UK will decide. It’s now or never. Defend Assange. His life and the future of journalism depend on it.

I have known @VitalikButerin for eight years now.
Vitalik is younger than me, but his insights far exceed mine. I have always been able to learn from Vitalik.
Although in the Crypto world, many people may see us as representatives of different values in the crypto world, as if we are parallel lines that have never intersected, in fact, we have known each other much longer than everyone knows.
In 2015, Ethereum had just started, and at that time, I had just entered Jack Ma's Hupan University, trying to do something in the crypto world with a small team of just over 30 people. At the end of 2015, I met with Vitalik at my company to discuss the recently launched Ethereum.
At that time, I had already bought a lot of Ether, but there were no decentralized mobile wallets to store it. As everyone knows, the explosion of the mobile internet in China in 2015 led all applications to start transitioning to mobile. I suggested to Vitalik that we should quickly launch an Android Ethereum blockchain wallet. Vitalik agreed with my suggestion and shared with me several prototypes of mobile wallets developed by community application developers.
It can be said that although we were not sure how much crypto would change everyone’s life at that time, Vitalik and I both deeply recognized that, as he mentioned in the article, “we are not here to just create isolated tools and games, but rather build holistically toward a more free and open society and economy, where the different parts - technological, social and economic - fit into each other.”
In other words, we are building a new order of technology and finance.
Eight years later, although the two of us may be realizing all this in our own different ways, as I grow older, I realize more and more that what I share with Vitalik far exceeds our differences.
For example, decentralization. We should minimize the impact of a single person on the open protocol, so that even if the founder disappears forever, the program should run eternally.
For example, auditability. Anyone should be able to verify the logic of applications and continuously run a full node to ensure that the program runs according to the instructions of open-source documentation.
For example, Open global participation. Anyone in the world should be able to participate as a user, developer, or validator, as equally as possible. Participation itself should be permissionless.
For example, credible neutrality. The infrastructure of the base layer should be neutral, and in a way that even those who do not trust the developers can see its neutrality.
It can be said that TRON, BitTorrent, and many protocols and applications that have intersected with me are also operating with the same values as Ethereum. TRON's total users have already exceeded 200 million, and the number of BitTorrent protocol users has also surpassed 2 billion. The above values are the foundation for the long-term peace and order of internet protocols.
I do not agree with the excessive financialization of blockchain protocols, although blockchain protocols have long been inseparable from finance, but after all, this is still only a part of internet protocols and technology. Technology is the origin of the blockchain world, and finance is just a derivative of its technology.
Although many people join the cryptocurrency community because of the wealth effect, the persistence in technological values is still the most important. For example, myself, at least I joined the cryptocurrency community because I initially thought this technology had the potential to change the world.
Even in a sense, in terms of the future development of blockchain, philosophically, there is no difference between me and Vitalik.
This similarity comes from practice itself because adhering to these values is the basis for the blockchain world to become a better order. If we do not adhere to these values, then the new world we create will be no different from the old world we abhor, and our lifelong efforts will lose their meaning.
No matter how blockchain ultimately reaches the other shore, I think it will be fortunate.
