A lot has been written about the monstrous data centre proposed for Auchtertool. Much of it focusing (rightly) on the people, energy, water & the greenfield environment. However, it is also worth considering a different dimension - heritage, culture & community... soil & soul as Alastair McIntosh might say.

By way of example, 4 yrs ago, the Auchtertool Community planted these 36 rowan trees (below) as an avenue on the path up to Auchtertool Kirk, where our war memorial sits. Each tree representing one of the 36 men of the parish who died during the wars. 33 in WWI, 3 in WWII. 36 men from a village of 600 people. 💔

The first recorded service at the church was 1178 and there has been regular worship here ever since. It was almost certainly a site of worship long before this date... a ley line, a 'thin place'. It is atmospheric. How does our Kirk, our memorial, our place of peace exist with a hyper data centre humming & glowering over it from the neighbouring fields?

This wee corner of Scotland may not have the marketing of St Andrew's, castle of Edinburgh or the folklore of Loch Ness, but there is a humble dignity in a community that has sustained itself, and others, for over 800 years.

In living memory Auchtertool has hosted Polish refugee camps during WWII to Ukrainian refugees in the current war. It is a welcoming, resilient community that endures. The Auchtertool community epitomises the ethos of Jock Tamson's bairns, or to put it in more contemporary words - you can't choose where you were born, but you can choose who you stand with.
Auchtertool is a place of peace.
This centuries old place of peace is, ironically, worth fighting for.

There is no "UK." There is only the English colonial state and it's not fit to guard the North Atlantic.
What it calls the GIUK Gap will soon have its true name back: the GIS Gap for Greenland, Iceland, Scotland.
A decolonised Scotland will run these waters far better than its coloniser ever has:
→ More focused: no empire to perform, just its own seas to keep safe
→ More capable: a navy built for its own coast, not one that borrows escorts and can't find its own submarines
→ Better terrain knowledge: this is home water, not a line on a map in Whitehall
→ No enemies: only "little England" to manage, and on Scotland's own terms

And where England sees threats, Scotland has family:
🇺🇸 tens of millions of Scottish diaspora
🇷🇺 two million Russians of Scottish descent, and centuries of shared history especially in military affairs
🇨🇳 a natural friendship with a nation that knows, like Scotland, what it means to be plundered by the same coloniser
Every High North nation (Norway, Iceland, Greenland, Denmark and the rest) will be safer once England's warmongering, wholly disconnected from its real capabilities, stops setting the temperature of these waters.
The world doesn't need NATO's chokepoint. It needs Scotland's peace.

One of the pillars of the so-called 'union', regularly vaunted by the British Government to support their voluntary partnership narrative, is the retention of Scots law under the Treaty of Union 1707. Yet here we see a Labour government claiming that the High Court of England and Wales has jurisdiction over Scotland, with the words "antiquarian" and "desuetude" applied dismissively to what it refers to as "18th Century legislation".

The Acts and Treaty of Union—held up by the British state as the very partnership agreement that makes Scotland England's 'voluntary partner'—are, time and again, shown to be held in complete contempt. This is hardly surprising, of course, since it is hard to muster honest respect for a document you never took the trouble to consummate, let alone implement its provisions.

One tactic of the constant delay is to ensure that those who brought this case will run short of money. This is an important case for Scots law, for popular resistance to creeping muscular unionism (the British government's own unofficial term for colonial enforcement), and for the cause of Scottish liberation. It should, if at all possible, be supported by whatever people can afford.
